3rd person distance

Does anybody know how to adjust the distance from your character when in 3rd person view?

In console, type c_thirdperson. Options to adjust the thirdperson view should appear.

I kind of prefer thirdperson in most games vs. firstperson.

The 1 I am looking for puts your character in the middle of the screen. I more or less just want to try it, to see if I like it better than the closer version of 3rd person.

I get unknown command when I enter maxdistance. Yes, I do have sv_cheats 1 set also.

These are for Left 4 dead? not Left 4 dead 2? I highlighted this one thirdpersonshoulderaimdist "720" ctrl C and then ctrl V putting it in exactly like that in the Left 4 dead console and it still says unknown command.

I think I got it to work. The problem was I highlighted some of the ones in your post, hit ctrl c, and then opened the console in the game and hit ctrl v. For some reason or another doing it that way must of been putting it in wrong because when I typed it in space then the# it seems to work. When you put min distance or max distance in, does that go by itself, or does it for example go like this thirdpersonshoulder maxdistance #?

To be honest when I typed these in, I did not notice any difference in the distance from the character height from the shoulder or distance from their back.

It is difficult to explain in words, it works. You just have to understand the principle commands.
Easier to download a mod for thirdperson. (For L4D2 other command values)

That looks like it is strictly for Left 4 dead 2.

what you want to do is change the shoulder offset value. thirdpersonshoulderoffset 20 does nicely for me while still being accurate. close range its about 2 ingame inches to the left but good at range.
