It wont open.

I wanted to play l4d again, but it didn't open and I thought 'okay this is weird' and I proceeded to open l4d2 again it didn't open. I moved the games between my drivers, uninstalled and installed again, no avail. What do I do now?

l4d2? This is the l4d1 forum.

Anyway, try entering "-autoconfig" (without the quotation marks) in l4d's launch parameters.

I tried that on both games and didn't worked. I included l4d2 because it too won't open.

Are both l4d games the only games that won't open?

Are you sure that your drivers are up-to-date and your DirectX as well?

My DirectX is 11.1 gets translated as DirectX 12 for some-reason.

You need the 9.0c version iirc.
Even if you have the 11.1 version, your computer might not have the older dependencies required for older games (like l4d).

I was having a similar issue to yours @Edud Modnar: I recently switched from Windows 8 to Windows 11 and had troubles starting L4D (L4D2 ran with no issues). After going through many pages on the internet recommending stuff about launching the game with compatibility mode and running as admin and also including -autoconfig in launch parameters, I solved the issue by making sure all my video drivers were up to date and just to run the game as an admin, no compatibility mode enabled and finally it started working properly...

I'm playing all of my games on this almost decade old laptop with out a problem. All of them started happening about a 2 or 3 weeks ago, before the problems started it ran with out any problems. I tried to solved it by my self. cuz my family tree's people around me doesn't use pc at all. If they use they wont use it for gaming like I do. In short I'm a black sheep of my WHOLE family tree. I switched from win7 before getting l4d games, after getting the game I was using win10 then switched to win11 to test my laptop's power used it for 3 or 4 month and switched back to win10.

Indeed. It ate more than half of my 8gb ram lol. It kept eating my ram, so I reverted back to win10
