Half-Life: Opposing Force

Half-Life: Opposing Force

Crash at Vicarious Reality?
So, I'm using the new steam beta version, and I play through the entire thing just fine... But I get to this certain point in Vicarious Reality where the little Navi-esque sprite thingy flies past the green claw tentacle things that tap on the ground. And no matter what I do or how I approach it, if I walk past a certain point next to one of those claw-things, my game crashes to desktop instantly with no error message...

This would appear to be a DEP issue, but with the new Steampipe build, I can't find the freaking .exe to exclude.

I'm gonna give this a healthy bump. I'm using presumably the latest stable version of Opposing Force and I'm having the exact same issue. Task Manager says that hl.exe in the game's folder is what's running - adding that as a DEP exclusion fixes nothing.

I've completed Half-Life and Blue Shift without issues. Between this and the underwater Desert Eagle bug, I'm beginning to wonder if anybody cares about this game at all.

This happened to me as well, the game crashes every time after the yellow sign[i.imgur.com].

Probably a few years late for this, but since this thread was the first result in my Google search, here is how to fix it:

Go to your Steam library ► Right-click Half Life Opposing Force ► Properties ► Set launch options ► Enter -num_edicts 4096 ► Open the game. This should work.

Another thing that worked for me was just instead of walking past the yellow sign, jump through those 2 bars on the side and avoid the place where the glitch happens, you don't need to go there anyway (you need to use the barnacle weapon to enter that big hole on the wall).
