Gordon Freeman's...Shades?
Everyone knows that Gordon Freeman always wears glasses, yet in Opposing Force, his model seems to have shades. Was it some sort of bug that Gearbox couldn't fix?

Yes, he has a ponytail in every HL1 game.

The ponytail is a texture glitch. Science Team uniform Freeman in Blue Shift doesn't have one.

Actually, it's part of the model. It was in his HL, OP4OR, Dreamcast and PS2 models.

Huh. The Blue Shift labcoat Freeman model didn't have a ponytail. I heard the dumb hairstyle was from a texture glitch and unintended.

No, the ponytail is most likely intended as it's on the Dreamcast and PS2 Gordon models also Gordon's ponytail was apparently inspired by a male valve employee.

Oh. Didn't know that. I'll check the HL Wiki to see if that's true.

Freeman's not like that normally. It's just an addition of Gearbox of how they thought Freeman looked like.

Okay, I just checked. It was a concept they had for Freeman's design, but eventually scrapped. Notice how the concept art for the final Freeman design (box art for HL1 and Source on their store pages and HL2 and others featuring Freeman) has no ponytail. Now take a look at player.mdl from HL1 in GMod or some ♥♥♥♥. Notice the ponytail. It's a glitch, they didn't mean to put the ponytail, but, since it was true to the original Freeman designs and it looked like a Valve employee, they decided to leave it unchanged. They later used this design for every Gordon model until HL2 and turned it into an inside joke. Earlier Freeman designs had a ponytail(?), but the final one doesn't. (Also NECA Freeman Action Figure is the HL2 design, so no ponytail.)

I honestly have no idea since I have no experience whatsoever with NPC and character models. But still, noclip up to Freeman in Blue Shift during the beginning tram ride. Notice how he has no ponytail. Now go into thirdperson mode (HL1 and Blue Shift use the same crappy Gordon model as the Thirdperson model). Notice how the model has a ponytail. I'm guessing it's either some weird-ass glitch or an inside joke by Valve. Considering how buggy GoldSrc and HL:S's crap version of Source can be and how weird Valve's in-jokes can be (They once saw the hoop thingy on GLaDOS as a potential meme), both theories hold a lot of water.

But but Blue Shift wasn't developed by Valve. Maybe Gearbox didn't liked the ponytail so they decide to remove it? It definitley isn't a glitch. Just because Mr.Freeman doesn't have ponytail in Blue Shift doesn't mean it's a glitch.
