Is Opposing Force canon in Half-Life Univers
Is it? We never see Gonom in Half-Life 2.

Unconfirmed.

The writer, Marc Laidlaw states "canon until stated otherwise", but the writer isn't the one calling the shots when it comes to these things. To me they are not canon.

Either both expansions are canon, or none are. Which is kind of an issue because Blue Shift is easier to fit into the canon, while OpFor has the problem of Race X.

Race XXX is not a problem. After Black Mesa portal to their world closed. At best leftovers of Race X were destroyed by humanity and combine.
The real problem is Gonome. For some reason this form of Zombie does not appear in HL2 and expansions.

Yeah, Gonomes are the reason I don't believe canon. But we got all sorts of crazy theories I heard like kleiner genetically modified headcrabs to prevent Gonomes and gorarches, Europe is cold unlike black Mesa environment so headcrabs can't evolve, nihilanths dead so there's no one telling zombies to evolve, combine suppression field, headcrabs got bored turning into Gonomes, etc..

The Combine modified the headcrabs so they couldn't evolve into gonomes.

The cut Zombie Assassin looked like one.
