So the Black Mesa got nuked
Whole Black Mesa? or just enough to make some parts of facility into dust.

People are mad at me because I asked a question, raised arguments, and only thing Ive heard is if I "dont know how nukes know", well maybe I don't because i dont spend my whole life merged with a expensive gaming chair researching about something that wont improve my normal life and will attack people if they are wrong, call them stupid and then act like Einstein for knowing 1 thing better than other people
"expensive gaming chair"
im actually laying in bed with a laptop who's battery barely functions,a cheap wireless mouse that gets things done. and not too long ago,i was still using a 10-15 year old computer who's graphics card burnt out.

im no wise ass,i already know that. I never wanted to call you dumb or anything,i just wanted to explain how it would have worked to help prevent you making a mistake like that again.

by whole life you mean like 5 minutes comparing the modern thermonuclear bombs with the little boy/fat man

What mistake? Making arguments?
Zakhar 2019 年 7 月 27 日 下午 12:20
Making arguments when you had no idea on how the thing works to begin with

black mesa is just a big crater now

... there is aliens from another world destroying pretty much all the humans and lots are concerned about how much blast force a NUKE has that nuke was sent in to take care of black mesa even if it is deep underground lots of the facility us connected that would probably allow the blast to travel around a bit it could also destroy allot of the surface buildings foundation causing them to fall but there is a possibilty that parts of the BMRF were not destroyed because issac and eli escaped and they were pretty deep underground its a little confusing

They escaped because they had time, not because they survived the explosion.

I agree with VTFOV here, there's no way the entire facility got destroyed by that nuke. Look, even if it says that you're safe after 50 km, that's a kilometer radius of a crater that it would do ON THE SURFACE. Black Mesa on the other hand, is a very deep research facility, lots of kilometres under the surface, which means that it limits the amount of damage that the nuke can do, because it has to penetrate thick concrete for the most part instead of thin air, it makes a major difference if you just think about it! It was more than enough to kill thousands of people don't get me wrong, but definitely NOT enough to wipe out every sector, every wall, every vent, every pipe, and every corridor in the facility.

There's a guy that even talked about this whole thing in a video, just do a search on youtube for "Destroying Black Mesa - A Point About The Nuke". I don't need to say more, just watch the video! If those aren't enough points to make you believe this fact, then i don't know what will. And next time think again before saying "you don't know how a thermonuclear bomb works", because that's just immature and stupid, considering the fact that you're not even nuclear physicists to begin with, and therefore you know as much about the subject as everyone else does.

A thermonuclear bomb can emit up to 15 million degrees C. AKA The core of the sun. There's simply no way some concrete can survive. The heat produced would likely cause a lot of pressure, including the explosion. Not only would this cause a huge crater,it would spew the contents miles off, basically meaning,BM Is as good as gone.

Black Mesa was actually weakened before the nuke even went off. The attacks of the aliens and the HECU grunts, and the black ops. There must have been ridiculous pipelines of fuel or whatever other explosive compound an anomalous research facility could use. There were also weapons of mass destruction inside the facility as well. Although exploding a nuke next to another nuke isnt generally a good idea, the material would probably melt before it even reacted,a nuke needs a chain reaction to emit that powerful blast, but there must have been a lot more weapons in reserve to further destroy the facility.

Almost every nuclear bomb can go up to that temperature. but you're forgetting the fact that such a temperature is reached for such a tiny, tiny brief moment in time it's barely unnoticeable. if a thermonuclear bomb was able to reach 15 million degrees C and stay like that for just 1 second, it would burn 1/6th of the planet. and we all know that that is simply impossible to happen. not to mention the amount of energy needed to sustain such a temperature.
also the black ops just wanted a bomb that would render the facility unusable for further experiments and to kill all of the witnesses with its radiation fallout, not one that would blow up the entire desert apart and the facility with it.
one other minor detail is that the bomb we see in-game looks even smaller than the bombs that were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki during WW2, which clearly means that it was less than 15 kilotons of TNT. and 15 kilotons is nowhere close to enough to blow up an entire facility buried kilometres underground.

The facility was already HEAVILY struck by artillery and airstrikes, shattering most anything above level 2 and 3, including dams, bridges, supply depots, and what have you. The deeper stuff, like the metro, the 'zoo,' the level 4 and 5 storages, and Lamba complex, wouldn't be breached by a nuke unless it was deposited right next to them, and the one you see in opposing force just so happens to be right above the level 4 and 5 storages, obviously to seal in or outright kill all the invading race X and remaining xen forces in the area. The spec ops down there are essentially on a suicide mission. Not to mention, even the metro got wrecked pretty hard during the HECU and xen attacks, leaving it in tatters, and forcing both Freeman and Adrian to rely on a retired train track system from when the complex was first being built.

It's also foolish to assume there was only one nuke. The Lamba complex itself took a beating from direct invasion. Even when you arrive there in HL, it's just a mess, barely functioning. The last ditch effort to send Freeman through to to the borderworlds, to assassinate whatever command structure the aliens has, what just that. Shortly after he makes the jump, the teleportation chamber collapses, and Adrian himself has to make a hasty retreat to another portal, which drops him off in a different part of the borderworlds.

lol i also thought about there being multiple nukes around the facility

I never said the bomb sustained that temperature, its just the mere fact that it can reach them and it takes quite a while to cool down. Anything within that hot zone would melt.
