Pistol range problems

I understand that the Desert Eagle supposed to be more accurate with the laser on, but in the training mission at least, it seems like it's completely bugged. It can hit the 25m target just fine but beyond that, with the laser on, I get sparks like it's hitting but no bullet hole and no acknowledgement that the shot hit. Bullet holes show up with the laser off, but of course it's impossible to hit the center of the targets without the laser... Kinda feels like I'm soft-locked in the tutorial
