Half-Life: Opposing Force

Is this in the original lore of Half-Life?
Is this considered canon? Like Race-X and all that.

Yes it's canon.

Yeah, it's basically canon unless Valve state otherwise, which they never did, so it's canon.

Canon unless stated otherwise.

Sadly I am not sure we'll see the Race X back because of how the game ended and how Valve focused more about the Combine

That, and also because the franchise is dead and all. :-(

I still refuse to believe the serie is dead unless Gabe Newell is explicitely stating it.

As long as there are mods/videos/beta datamining the franchise is still more or less alive

Fair enough.

I try to be optimistic and still think it can be released at some time.

Well given the fact the writer leaked the story in detail I’m not sure episode 3 will ever be a thing

1. former writer.

2. Not the actual Ep3 story, just a piece of self-descibed fanfiction.

3. Nowhere near "in detail".

4. Epistle 3 has absolutely no effect on whether or not Valve make another HL game.

Well when you know what was supposed to happen in the third episode and then when it comes out and it’s not that people will be mad

Mad? Why?

Because fans can be nuts

That's a fair assessment.

I was playing episode 2 earlier, and was thinking that Valve sometime HAS to release episode 3. Profits from Steam and ingame purchases can only get them so far.

And yes, I know about the three VR games coming and Artifact. But Dota 2 is very user specific. You have to have a lot of hours in to fully enjoy Dota. Counter-Strike and Left-4-Dead could be good options for a new release, but I think the new VR titles should bring freshness to the industry.

Gray Newell (Gaben's son, the Nihalith.) and his company Naetyr are ment to be developing a game called Fury, which was on VNN.

Another think to note is that Half-Life 3 has to be perfect. The story has proven to be immaculate. Marc Laidlaw is an amazing writer and he makes brilliant stories. But a game of this magnitude can make or break the industry. Like Doom 3, but less crappy and bigger. In fact, Doom is a good example to go along for their development, (but with a less crappy 3rd game, I will stop digging into doom now.) from the original game being a modified Doom/Quake engine.

Half-Life 3 (or episode 3) is probably going to have VR support, so players without headsets can play it and users with can get a better experience.
