Problems Playing MKW? Crashes e.t.c? Look Here

Welcome to Medieval Kingdom Wars, and if you are reading this post I`m guessing you're off to a bad start . Please keep in mind that these bugs only effect less than 2% of our players. But we are fully dedicated to making sure everyone can run the game.

Well lets try to get this resolved for you now shall we. Please check below for various symptoms and solutions.

Main Menu Options only shows very small resolution
=========================================
-Go to Windows Display Settings,
-Under change the size of text, apps e.t.c - set it 100%


Game Crashes after Company Intro Video
=========================================
-Restart your PC
-Bring up Task Manager, Go to Processes, and if PnkBstr process is running please disable it
-Start the game, let the Reveire logo move play and don`t move or click the mouse
-Wait for about 5 minutes, the main menu should appear
-This long odd loading time will only happen on the first run


Stuttering lagspike every 3 to 30 seconds
=========================================
-The problem is the antivirus. We have confirmation that "Bitdefender Antivirus free edition" and potentially others, when active scan is on, make MKW lag like this. For now solution is to disable active scan on this antivirus.
-We are working on a full solution and expect it within a few days.


Sudden Terrible visual lag
=========================================
If you played ok for a while, but not the game started to lag a lot, especially when scrolling the camera.
To fix this you would need to delete the Local Saved Data File
-Click on the organizer button in any folder. And select Folder and Search options. Go to view, and under Hidden Files and Folders, or Drives - click show hidden files.
-Now navigate to C:/users/YOUR USERNAME/AppData/local/mkw/
-In that file, locate and delete file called local_saved_data


I played fine, but now it crashes on startup
=========================================
To fix this you would need to delete the Local Saved Data File
-Click on the organizer button in any folder. And select Folder and Search options. Go to view, and under Hidden Files and Folders, or Drives - click show hidden files.
-Now navigate to C:/users/YOUR USERNAME/AppData/local/mkw/
-In that file, locate and delete file called local_saved_data


Main menu says - Version Incorrect and that you need to Patch the game
=========================================
-Right click on Medieval Kingdom Wars name in your Steam library, and select Properties
-Switch to Updates tab, and select - Always keep this game up to date
-Wait a minute, or if game didn`t update, restart steam (completely shut it down and start it again)


Crashes on opening campaign menu/f campaign progress does not save
=========================================
1) if you have more than one account on your PC, try playing from Admin account, or the one with Administrative Windows rights.

2) If above does not work please try this step: Set Correct Permissions for Temp Game Files
-Click on the organizer button in any folder. And select Folder and Search options. Go to view, and under Hidden Files and Folders, or Drives - click show hidden files.
- Now navigate to C:/users/YOUR USERNAME/AppData/local/mkw/, Right click on the mkw folder, and select Properties
-Un-click Read-Only, and click Apply. Select to all folders and sub-folders when prompted.
-Set Administrative Permissions

3) And finally if all else fails try setting Administrative Permissions on the game
-Go to your steam directory ex: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Medieval Kingdom Wars (This is a typical path)
-Right click on MKW.exe, and choose Properties
-Compatibility Tab Check "Run this program as an administrator" and also check compatibility mode for "Windows 7"
-If you get Microsoft Visual c++ error box, do not close it - just play and ignore the error


Connection Timed Out error in Multipalyer Game
=========================================
-Restart your computer - in most cases it`ll fix this issue
-Restart your Internet Modem/Router - turn power off, wait 10 seconds, turn on. Wait 5 minutes after
-Disable Anti Virus and Firewall - and if that works, re-enabled it and set MKW.exe as exception


Connection Error in Multiplayer
=========================================
Ask all the players who are having connection problem to do these steps, including yourself, as it`s impossible to tell which of the players is having a problem
-Restart (power down and then up) wireless/internet modem, and also restart PC
-In Control Panel, click Network and Internet Connections, and then open Windows Firewall.
In Windows Firewall, click the Exceptions tab, and then click Add Port. Add post 30844
-If you have other firewall software, try disabling it, or adding MKW.exe as exception there


Mouse cursor is very small on 4k resolution
=========================================
This is actually a Windows bug. To fix it:
-either set your desktop resolution to 1920x1080
-or in Display Settings set "Change size of text..." much higher like 300%
We are working on a fix, working around windows system, and hope to release a full fix within a month.


Additional Steps to try in case of frequent crashes
=========================================
1) Bring up Task Manager, Go to Processes, and if PnkBstr process is running please disable it

2)Delete your MKW user folder
-Click on the organizer button in any folder. And select Folder and Search options. Go to view, and under Hidden Files and Folders, or Drives - click show hidden files.
-Now navigate to C:/users/YOUR USERNAME/AppData/local/mkw/
-Delete most of the contents of that MKW folder, but you might want to leave you campaign saves
Note: Do not delete the Campaign1 to Campaign9 files if you wish to save your campaign.

3) If you are not playing on high visual settings, try check-marking all the items on the left in the options, but leaving Water/Shadow/Draw Distance on your current lower settings

4) Revalidate the game
-Open Steam find Medieval Kingdom Wars in the Library
-Right click on the game name, and go to Game Properties
-In Game properties click on Local Files, and select Re-validate game files.

5) make sure you restart the computer before playing again

6) Disable Anti Virus and Firewall - and if that works set MKW.exe as exception

7) Try installing C runtime libraries. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5555

8) Try getting the latest .Net Framework For Desktop - http://www.microsoft.com/net/download

9) Uninstall the game on Steam (delete local files), and re-download

10) Set Administrative Permissions
-Go to your steam directory ex: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Medieval Kingdom Wars
-Alter the properties of MKW.exe

1 major problem, double clicking on a City brings up just an Army, no "Enter City" option, how can I play your game without entering the World Map??? Sounds like a big bug to me

Hey Beders, sorry for the late reply and for missing your post. I finally started looking into this, and sorry to see you had to refund the game. But yeah the fix for this very rare bug will take us a few days at least.

Ive been getting the same problem, and it seems to be coming from the belfrys. when the AI trys to use the belfrys, it either glirtches out and just runs into the wall and does nothing, or it works as intended, but crashes the game.

I've recently got the game, installed it and restarted my lap, but sound crashes when the game is at the loading screen before the main menu. I tried several tips in here, but nothing works. HELP! Is there any patch I would need or something?

Hey, I really enjoy playing your game but there are some things which are not game breaking but they get quiet annoying over time, for example the german translation isn´t the best and not complete and I don´t know if it is only on the german version but sometimes the unit descriptions are all over the screen even though I haven´t clicked on the unit itself.
Another thing is that you are unable to chose the monitor the game is showing on you could probably fix it with using the windowmode but everytime I enable the windowmode the game just goes crazy and it zoomes in and I just can see maybe a third of the whole screen.

@capferho94 - sorry to hear about this, you are the 3rd person to report this bug, it`s extremely rare, and we are working on trying to figure it out - but I`m afraid to say - it will probably take couple of wees.

We`ll start gathering more information on this within a week. If you can - I would advise to refund the game for now, and I`ll let u know once we have this fixed down the road.

@ Legion_Reddog - Hey Legion we re working on this - expect it to be much better by next week.

And yes - looks like dual monitor has some problems, only works well in full screen mode and it always picks 1st monitor. I do expect to give this area some work, but it will take time.

Yea me too, it's really anoing. It happens every time the enemy uses there lethers on the main cacel. Fix would be great - but aniway, great game!!!

I thought this Game was good but since Yesterday it stops working right after starting. And I'm not willing to install 3.000 programs and delete 400 files. My fun went to ♥♥♥♥.
