1st time setup hangs at: UE4 Prerequisites (x64) Modify Setup, Uninstall or Close

Got a copy yesterday, downloaded it, and clicked play today and have 3 options
So i clicked 1st option (topmost) I get popup that says:
"Performing first time setup..."
"Installing: U (step 1 of 1)"
and below those is the working/busy circle that just keeps going round and round

Another popup from unreal engine says:
"UE4 Prerequisites (x64)"
"Modify Setup"
and that gives me 2 options: Uninstall or Close

After 15 minutes of nothing I'll guess I'm supposed to do something with unreal engine???

Why is it installing that which is already installed and works fine with everything to date???
Or why would it uninstall U4 during setup where it TTT says it's installing???
Very confusing for a game supposedly not in alpha/beta...


FYI closing Unreal engine appears to let the game run normally afterwards.

I clicked the Uninstall. It looked like installing.
However, when I played the game. I got black screen.
It did not ask me to install UE4 again.
I cannot find UE4 in my control panel.

I deleted the game from Steam and downloaded again. It didn't show the UE4 setup again. Still black screen.

I'm having this issue as well and cannot get the game to even start to a black screen.

For those wanting to try installing the UE4 Prerequisites manually, navigate to the game's install location and enter the "Redist" folder. I was able to use this to determine it was erroneously uninstalling an already installed prerequisite, but I still can't get it to run.

EDIT: Ok, apparently the last step was restarting Steam. So go to the game's install location, manually install the UE4 Prerequisite redistributables, restart Steam, then the game *should* run.

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread, but I am running into this exact issue and it isn't listed in the Known Issues thread. Has a fix been found?
