Clearly they know what to do, as do I as well... This isn't about "what to do". It's about "how to do it" (or "how to skip it"). The timing is far too tight for some of us to pull off. Apparently one needs superhuman reflexes and a godlike computer to pull this one off. It's not a particularly hard "puzzle" to figure out. It's just nearly impossible for some folks to actually do. The precision and timing required are just insanely ridiculous, and literally not possible in certain situations. This is honestly just a case of poor level design. The map devs wussed out here trying to ramp up the difficulty in a genuinely bad way.
These sort of timing based "puzzles" aren't really puzzles at all. They're just annoyances to those of us who love puzzle games and bought this for it's similarity to Portal and other true puzzle/story games. Am now disappointed in this game, purely because this one "puzzle" has utterly blocked any further progress due to the requirement for absolute perfection of motion, aim, reflexes, and a machine that can handle both without so much as a single pause, hitch, or glitch of any kind.
While I realize that many have solved this just fine, the original poster has it correct that for some of us poor souls this game turns out to have been a total waste of money because of this single level being truly impossible to solve. Maybe not for everyone, sure, but for some of us, the game ends at Chapter Two, Sector 19. A genuine shame, because I was really loving this game right up until that moment.
Seems like I have "superhuman reflexes". It is not hard in any way to cross the bridge. I could literally take out the energy orb, put it in and walk over the bridge. If it were actually hard, one would have to run across it and/or jump at the end. I think you need better precision and reflexes in some parts of Portal, but that might just be me.
