I did some searching around and ended up finding this which worked for me.

Browse into your steamapps directory and find the game's install dir. Drill down into the following folder: Engine\Plugins\Runtime\Steam\SteamVR

Open SteamVR.uplugin in a text editor and modify the following line from true to false:

"EnabledByDefault" :

Save the file and start the game again.

If you've got a rift I think you can do the same thing in OculusRift.uplugin under the OculusRift dir.

I was having pretty much the same issue with my Rift. Game would launch the Steam VR service and the Oculus launcher. I'd have to put on the headset to get past the Rift launch screen, then the game would play with the video on my monitor, but the sound through the Rift headset. I tried the fix listed above (disabling both the SteamVR and OculusRift upligin files), and it worked fine.

It works! Disabling SteamVR and OculusRift files. thx!

I just got the game and was having the same problem. I found changing the first file to false didn't work but after also changing the second in the Oculus folder it runs fine. Thankyou for the fix.

Changing only the file OculusRift.uplugin works for me (EnabledByDefault from true to false).

The first thing I tried was the setting in the SteamVR file, but that didn't seem to make any difference, so I changed it back. In both cases SteamVR still starts though (Saying Not Ready etc, but just ignore that).

Thanks for that hint. Tried every option available within steam.
The manual edit of files did the trick.
Should not have be necessary. Evil developers ;)

Is The Turing Test even actually capable of being ran in VR mode? I see no mention of it on the store page. Is this just some weird glitch instead?
FireWaran Feb 19, 2017 @ 1:29pm
I would not wonder if it will be VR soon. As far as i have played there is no reason why it should not be VR playable. It just can be both VR and non-VR..

It would have been great to release it directly with VR support, imho.

Pneuma ran in VR at some point, not sure if it still does; since they're essentially the same engine it should be totally doable

Easier than that.
Stop the oculus services and it will run normally.

this thread still shows up for people googling this problem.
this worked for another game and might work for this
1. go to the games properties in Steam.
2. click ''Set launch options''
3. type ''-nohmd'' in the box and press ok

For anyone finding this on google. This post fixed my issue. I did not find the files in the same place. For me, they were in these locations.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Turing Test\Engine\Plugins\Runtime\OculusRift

And

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Turing Test\Engine\Plugins\Runtime\Steam\SteamVR
