Help I'm a noob
Hi, just started playing this game, love the idea but having some trouble getting started. I need logs to build things, so I built a lumberjacks lodge at the start. After a few minutes though, there is a zZz symbol above the lodge and it says no resources for production. I am also completely out of logs. What am I missing here?

Forester's Lodge gathers logs, lumberjack lodge makes firewood from logs

Mu Shu Fasa :) Perhaps the game guide can also help you get started

Collecting Resources
Gathering wood, stones and ore with the help of laborers provides a temporary boost to these resources. To constantly increase your resources, build a forester's lodge and mines.
If a building is lost or resources cannot be collected, villagers are released from work. Don't forget to assign them new jobs. The easiest way to do this is through the Professions window under General Information – just set the current number of workers for a given profession.
Lay new pathways using the terraforming tools – select the "Create slope" tool, highlight the cliff face and the workers will turn it into a traversable slope.
The older the tree, the more resources it contains. Chop down old trees first, as they contain the most resources. If you don't chop it down, the tree will fall and the resource will be lost.

Use first person a lot in the beginning, build up food stores from gathering and hunting before anything. Build one house to save the single homeless villager. Build a small field to grow grass and wheat. Only wheat is needed to bake bread.
Put a lock on the fruit double click the fruit in the resources windows then when they have eaten most vegetable unlock fruit. Veg have 1 more calourie than fruit.
Then just wait a year or so.
Once resources have buit up then build the lumberjack to keep the citizens warm in winter until you can get a tailor.
Collect lots of lumber patiently when ready build a stone mine.
You will need stone to make basic tools.
Build a baker for bread and a fishing lodge. Or the Fishfarm.
Build one house after a year.
This my guide , cant have too many guides lol. Also check out youtube.

Jaunitta you forgot to add if you want to go bread/pies route you must use mods otherwise you gonna fail and everybody starves to death. Bakery is useless on vanilla.

lol, thats not true everyone has choices especially beginners, I'm being gentle on our Noob :).

Sadly but i must admit you have a point here, even if your choice can lead to death and end of collony you should have a right to do it. If everyone would be perfect where would be fun in that.

Its a good question, does bad choice is still a choice you should make?

Mu Shu Fasa :) Any question is a good question, please post anytime :)

Haha, thanks guys, I will try these tips. I love mods/ modding so I'm definitely open to using some from the get go. Is there one in particular you guys would recommend to buff bakery/ pies without being op?

Hi, I definately recomend just for starters that way it's great fun using first person. Also food is such a big role in the life of our citizens. . To remove it later on you need to wait till 5 degress below in winter then unsubscribe save and exit game.
This mod has options where you can choose which wild plants to grow. I found that pumpkin and cabbage were too many easier to use 2 small fields.

And this one, gives the much needed wool as the native UI animals just dont give much.

And this one
All mammals produce both meat and skins. Sheep produce milk. Livestock reproduces at rates closer to reality. Enjoy :)
You should be okay then for a long time.

Also is it 100% necessary to use the first person function where you take over a character? I much prefer the 3rd person city management mode. The first person mode feels pretty slow and clunky but maybe I am just not used to it yet.

:) have fun Mu Shu Fasa. Oh here's a tip when using FPV press the W with your middle finger and press shift with little finger at the same time now you run fast. :)
It's not 100% necessary to use FPV I just love doing it, also in the beginning I get food meat a lot faster as I have my villagers doing other things.
try to play game without too mods its a good way to understand how it all works. I make new game lots of times.

Sorry one last question, is there a mod that makes the Keep building more realistic? I'm an architecture nerd and that design is triggering me a little bit lol. The tiered stone roof would just collapse due to the poor tensile strength of stone and lack of load bearing points. Real keeps mostly had wooden roofs. The walls and towers look perfect though :D
