Helpful ideas for planning and building your village.
By Jaunitta 🌸
I've learnt a lot of the mechanics of this game ,and have determined that there is no one way.
Planning in advance is the main key, trial and error is only the way to learn.

Planning your Satelite villages Layout tips
Planning is not available in Forest Village so what I did /do is place all potential building/s and then just pause it till ready to expand.
This is an example of a starter village. Population 8 and have placed my planned buildings in front.
The same Starter villager called GreenFlowers further on. Front building now built. Food production is close by to each 2 large houses and barns. We'll take a walk along the main road in front of the houses.

A satellite village should start off just like the starter village, with about 4 small shacks upgraded or 1 house. Barn Warehouse well / Pyre.
Remember when the game started ? that is like a satellite village you should aim for that size, just add in the buildings as the groups expand connect by roads.
Here's stage's of my main game Harthwaite.
Stage one first village
When old villagers die they are replaced with new babies.
So you can last a long time with a small satellite village as you expand with fields orchards between them .
Gather a lot of resources to meet the new demands of a larger population before expanding.
Expanded first village example.
As our population grows while it's below 300 it's easier to monitor satellite villages , like in our real cities there is like villages everywhere out in the suburbs.
They all have a school and doctor near by. A cemetary / church but Forest Village doesnt have them so we must use pyres. Or a crypt.
2nd village
They will all have a school and doctor near by. pyres. Or a crypt.
3rd and 4th village connected by dirt road each village has the same buildings as the first
Harthwaite expanded villages
Population 1006
Population 1010
Video of my main game Harthwaite fully expanded with a population at 1007

Basic guidlines to game play and how it works
There is a few tricks I learnt and will share with you.
Delete Web Browser cache once a week, found in Steam Settings. This helps improve game speed as most games on Steam are now Cloud Based .
I have disabled Cloud Sync as I have no need to use the game on any other system.
That is the purpose of Cloud Sync.

Use teenagers and first person view while your starter village is growing and until you have enough resources to expand.
Age:
Age factors into how fast the villagers work. The older they get the longer it takes.
Building houses:
Build one or 2 new houses per year.
Too many houses built at the same time creates new babies at the same time,
when all those villagers get old they all get old at the same time.
And guess what , they all die of old age at the same time.
I usually wait until they have reached adults and are ready to breed before building more houses.
When population reaches capacity of available houses baby dies at birth.

Pull everyone out of their jobs in winter .
Re-assign villagers in the village profession window at Spring time that way local villagers will resume work nearby.

Keep your fields and places of work close to storage and houses.
Educated villagers will work longer and take less breaks.

Guard animals and Pack mules with stone towers upgraded or watch towers upgraded, they both shoot once upgraded to lvl 2 , lvl thre inscreases the diameter. Kill not only wild animals but also Raiders.

Place excessive resources into Castle Market.
Use Pack Mules to transport resources
Beer is one. The pack Mule will actually drop off beer into the Tavern

Fishing.
If needed I terraform a square area to deep water then I can place 2 fishing lodges.
If they run out fish I simply zero workers then first person and fish for a while, Exit first person and fisherman back and nomore Out of Fish.

Upgrading:
When upgrading a house note that all free villagers will gather the ingredients for that building,
the builders just stand by and wait " when there is free villagers " otherwise the builders will gather supplies themselves.

Do not upgrade or build if you have roads being built.
Priority doesn't work. Workers will not leave road building or tree cutting until it done.
Donot deconstruct house where there is babies. Babies or kids aged 1 or 2 will die as they cannot relocate.
How I do this,
Build a larger house and at 99% pause it, go over the shack and click the destroy / deconstruct, teenagers and adults only!! that will make those villagers homeless unless you have a vacancy somewhere. Go back finish large house as it will only take a few minutes. If that builder decides to go eat at 99% grab him in first person and press 1 to speed up and finish building.
Homeless villagers will move in.

Useful info:
Winter tasks.
I set the Forrester to plant trees only, then in winter use my villagers now not working to do the tree cutting.
Keeping the cutting quite close to the villages edge this keeps wild animals coming in when there is lots of trees around.
Building several hunters lodges around the map rotate.
Have winter tasks, such as the Blacksmith Furnace and kilner.
Then release in summer so they can do other tasks.

The warehouse holds wood logs, raw Iron, Hay Stone, Clay, Oats.
The Barn holds many things so far I have> Firewood , Meat,Fruit, Vegies, Bread, Honey, Oats, eggs, clothes,Grain,Wool,Flour. Fish, wheat, herbs charcoal. Cast Iron, tools,. I may have missed some.
Now take into consideration that cows eat hay. stored in warehouse.
Sheep eat hay.stored in warehouse
Pigs eat Oats stored in Barns
Chickens eat oats stored in Barns
The Tavern uses oats to make alcohol.
So lots of oats will be needed.
Build a field nearby these with storage suitable.

Play at speed x 2 or x 1 and only do bursts of higher.

That's the basics that work for me.
Take from this what you can use .
I do use Mods and if you wish to know which they are please leave a comment.
Play the game for the journey the beauty the problem solving and not just for gaining achievements.
It is a wonderful game, keep trying.

I will edit this if I think of anything else.
Jaunitta.

Final stages of Greenflowers
Thought I'd add this final video showing the village with a population over 2000.
Be advised if using mods to make pies.
Pies are higher in calories than any other food types so all villagers will gravitate to eating pies only leaving all other food type to build up.
Increases the micromanagement of all other food type resources.
One option is to put a lock on the pies. DB click the resources in Village Info.
Mods I used
As requested.
All the mods I used.
So long as you don't mix these old mods with new mods they are current and the game plays fine. Tested it today June 25th 2019. Remember the base is game is old anyway and only mods change it.
I used all these mods if I recall. Some were inactive though. I also removed Megadori's Kitchen garden later on. Be prepared to move buildings.

Much appreciated, with the mod list.
Some interesting mods there, like the idea of the travellers caravan.

This is a most impressive guide and the dedication and work to achieve it with your village is amazing.
Well done.
I need to spend longer reading and understanding more.

It would be good if you could list the mods used at that time?

Thanks
