a simple question about PARTS
Hi everybody i am thinking about buying this games since i loved the first one.

However i did try State of Decay 2 multiple times (just by a few hours) in the past and i found a specific mechanic very annoying.

Is not the combat, which is fine, is not the annoying the npc's and they missions which can be fun at times, the fuel mechanic is ok despite the driving being almost as bad as in the first game, also the game still is a glitchy mess.

Is the stupid, horrible, idiotic PARTS system which i hate, truly hate and found utterly unnecessary, just poorly designed and very ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying, it just drains the fun of the game at every point.

The thing that specifically annoys me is REPAIRING with PARTS which is just plain stupid. Is just a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game, just repair the items over night like in the first game, who ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cares about realism when it hampers gameplay and the fun factor

So, is the PARTS system still essential for playing this game or they toned down?, or, can be modded out of the game entirely?

yeah the automatic car repair overnight was nice in 1. but you are wrong, its not to hamper the game, survival games ever use resource drainage. other they only woud be lootershooters.
and when you dont get drowned in parts anyway something is really wrong on your end about how the game is handled.

btw when you talk about car repair, they never used parts in 2, only repairkits.

Depends how long ago you played. Update a ways back made far more things able to break down into parts, even coffee...

You can emulate the overnight repair thing with the Red Talon workshop from the Daybreak mode... look that up as it's a divisive mode.

Think of it this way, if your gear never broke you'd never be afraid. There's an article out there with the Dead Island devs talking about why gear breakage is important in a survival game.

Only the user can decide what satisfies their experience.
Parts are a component of the title so you will need to manage it like everything else.
Difficulty settings demonstrate how valuable these parts are to your survival.

The fact that SoD1 scored points with you is all you need to launch SoD2.
Rather than change your mind, just take it out on the zeds in SoD2.

I don't care about the car repair, i care about weapons and guns.

In SD1 the repair was overnight, or over a certain amount of time, then you can worry about gathering resources, and i know about that i pass breakdown until level 6 i like that stuff.

The problem is not the "Fear" about weapon breaking, what fear is just a game, is about how annoying is to being worried about weapon breakage and not the zed's.

I loved killing the zeds, i even like melee killing juggernauts and ferals, killing hordes just using a blade and food, is a lot of fun. But that was SD1 and your weapons lasted a good amount of time especially when you find a good weapon.

In SD2 for some reason devs think that all the players like the rise and repeat mechanic of finding these stupid little parts and then repair your weapons with the parts, and in my opinion that's very annoying.

SD2 combat difficulty is fun, resource and base management is tolerable, the car mechanics are ok, the story is kind of ok, but that stupid little mechanic makes the game feel repetitious.

I just don't get why devs and most players, i guess, like this stupid mechanic.

"finding the stupid little parts"? You don't go around finding Parts in the wild. You scrap weapons and other things in the Base, preferably with a bonus to how many Parts you get out of it, like a Salvage Station.

If you don't want to play around with parts for repairing stuff you can play a lot of Daybreak until you unlock the "Red Talon Workshop". Then buy it and install it in your community. Now you get free power in your workshop and it will repair all your melee and ranged weapons over time for free that is in your community locker.

Which means you need no parts at all for repairing weapons as long as you move the weapons into the locker!!!

Can it be modded away, yes it can, using community editor you can give yourself lots of parts.

Nah this game is not for me, thank you guys for the feedback.

SD2 is too bloated compared to SD1, the first game was quirky (and glitchy) yet fun. SD2 feels slow and tedious, one to many steps to be able to get fun.

Also i already have Dead Island 1, which i love to mod and have even more fun. Dead Island 2 already come out maybe ill be getting that one.

7 Days to Die finally release the 1.0 version, i buy it nearly 5 years ago but the dev's could not make up they minds. Project Zomboid also looks neat, i will test that one too.

Anyway thanks guys.

Don't forget to give Days Gone a try!

if you are hurting for parts to fix things,

a good tip is to make sure to create an outpost where you loot (don't have to be permanent) just to toss in your inventory every single Melee weapons you find.

if available use the foundry mod on your workshop that provide extra parts from salvage...

scrap all unwanted melee weapon

...

profit.

Weird, parts have literally never been a concern for me. I have effectively unlimited parts in every playthrough even on lethal. The game just throws them at you, I have like 800 in my current save thats only about 10 hours in.

If you don't like repairing stuff you can spec into close combat specialization, screwdrivers and knives never break. (If you're unlucky with rng you can buy respec book from mysterious wondering trader) Some bounty hunter packs have revolvers and action rifles that never break. Or you can cheese Builder legacy quest when you can farm infinite amount of weapons and parts by recruiting and kicking out new survivors(you need to go to main menu to refresh the quest)

Break down everything useless to parts. Have a trader as a leader, build a trade depot and call for parts trader & a materials trader. Break down rucksacks of materials. Break down weapons, I break down all small guns, all heavy weapons. In fact I mainly use bladed and break down everything else. Don't have a problem running out of parts myself, if I run out, I just break down stuff from traders or looting
