Network error code 10

So this has been happening to me for a least a month now, and don't know what is causing this, every time it say "Network error: An Unknown error occurred. Code 10" can't play with anyone or friends. Is there a fix to this?

EDIT: For me it was some old minor mods i had forgotten about and that caused the problems for me, so I just disabled them, sorry if this doesn't help.

theres a discord help channel.

The jist of it is

1. make sure windows 10/11 is updated,
2. make sure "Xbox console companion" is in fact gone (it was removed from the store last month)
3. make sure you have "Gaming Services" (the xcc replacment)
4. time zone on the computer is correct
5. sign out if the xbox account then back in
6. unplug your modem and router then plug that back in (clears firewall cache which can get hung up)
7. Make sure any antivirus is whitelisting the game for network access. Possibly by deleteing the entry for it and readding

Man, whatever you do, I would really recommend against messing with any xbox related application in Windows . Some of the components are core components that can stop Windows from running properly if you mess with them the wrong way. One time I manually stopped some of those xbox services, the consequence was bad.

typically i agree but for the last 3 years (since 20h1) XCC was changed from a system app to an optional one. were it was uninstallable through regular means.

The trouble there was that any computer that had downloaded it, under the previous versions (15-19), still had its entitlement as a system app. You could format, install say windows 10 21h2 from usb, and see the first thing MS Store did was install its system apps. Even if you were on a local account.

So long story short as of a bit ago, Xbox Console companion is gone from the store, anyone who has it should uninstall it, in all circumstances.

fun fact that list isnt generic, its a direct result of user issues in the devs discord.

The reason it seems cookie cutter, is that well, no one knows what your network equipment is, what your computer is, or what version of windows you are using.

We cant make specific info for you, because we dont have specifics.

Its a peer to peer game running on ipv6 (like all xbox games) unless xbox sign in/handshake servers are down in your area. its something fixable on your end one way or the other.

Yeah we are still getting ERROR CODE 10 when trying to play together. I played with my retired father for a while. Now we CANNOT. Contacted UL and NO HELP at all. Gave us both a list of 10 things to check and I said BS. It worked before you guys fix it. Did all 10 steps on both pcs an NOTHING. ERROR CODE 10. Other games work fine. My sister can play WOW with my nephew all day no problem. There has to be a simple solution that just makes it work. EVERYONE else out there can play together. HOW? Tell us how you do it. Do we need to buy other computers or what? I have a fiber optic line going straight into my house with gigabit internet so internet is NO ISSUE. It tells me to troubleshoot my router? NO. Router is fine. I can even get 500mbps in my garage. Router is not the issue.

We disabled and removed the last 3 mods we put in and it works again. Not sure why or what they would have to do with it. The mods I removed from both our games was increase/decrease zed mod, increase/decrease freaks, and a smoke grenade mod. I will have to narrow down exactly which one it was. We played together in each others games for about an hour with no problems. Usually it would boot us with ERROR CODE 10 immediately. I am just happy we can play again. I really thought it was something to do with updates.

This is the reason the developers do not support mods. You have to understand when a game is updated, all the previous mods become suspect. it doesnt matter what the mod does or what the game update was about.

When plague territories were released the mod "brighter headlights" caused crashes once the player drove into the plague heart effect. The only reason the players were able to load the game was because the character spawn outside of the cars on reboot.

This last update, the mod manager itself was causing crashes any time the player approached the new missions. The mod manager had to be updated for update 35.

Another issue after the last update a mod called "Brighter flashlights" that was created in march of 2023, was causing code10 totally breaking MP. And that mod author has no plans to update that mod.
Its still sitting on nexus.

Theres no way for anyone other than the player who installed the mods to keep track of it all. All games with mods have this same thing. its just SOD2 gets updated a lot

It must be a different flashlight mod. There are a few. This one extends the flashlight and headlights which is nice because my father and I both suffer migraines. It sucks. I have seen on many forums where players with no mods having many problems with ERROR CODE 10 even UL gave me a list to try and fix. We did not have trouble until we installed 2 mods that change the amount of zeds and freaks in the game. Anyway glad a few people on here said to check mods. I thought it might be related. I tried my original Microsoft store version with NO MODS and got error code 10, but I was also trying to join my dad with mods. So who knows. I am just happy to play with him again. We almost could not stop tonight!

Thats rough. Depending on the map as well the gamma is different. For Trumbull and providence the Gamma should be toward the high end of the setting like 75% for the other maps its closer to 25-40% or itll be washed out at night.

heres a flashlight and headlight mod that was recommended to that user for replacment of their flashlight mod. this one is confirmed to work for update 35. And these two authors will maintain it along with game updates (updates can take time though)

Yep. That's the one we have installed. It really works good. It takes a second or two to kick in each time you load into the game. thanks.
