Game Crash on load.

Game started crashing upon loading in...but only sometimes. Yesterday I played it was great, played for like 5-6 hours but today, now, I tried loading up again and I just cant do that. The game crashes everytime I try to load. The only definite way to load is to copy a backup and replace my game save with an earlier one. But obviously I would rather not do that and lose however many hours I played.

I do have a few mods installed but I dont think its mod fault since in my experience whenever its mods fault - the game always crashes and not sometimes.

mine is doing the exact same thing. i dont have any mods though. played yesterday with no issues but today the game crashes within 5 minutes of starting up

My crash is just after the load screen. Like the black screen that fades out to show your character. But instead it freezes when saving icon is visible on right top corner and then I have to turn it off via task manager or steam.

Btw are you playing with an old community? Like from previous previous updates? Like year or more old?

I see. I was thinking about starting a new community to see if it gets fixed but since the problem seems to persist then its no use

Ive tried reinstalling the game but still doing the same thing so not really sure what the issue is

I have heard someone say that they fixed it by deleting some files in documents but I asked them which documents they mean and I still havent gotten any answer yet.

You might want to try %localappdata% and find state of decay 2 folder but I cant guarentee since its not exactly documents folder and instead its the save file folder

its the mods. Mods can crash in various ways. going into certain areas, running into certain freaks, getting a specific mission.

look for updates to the mods

Yeah it might be. I deleted one mod that I had a suspection of causing it and that might have fixed it. I played some yesterday and it hasnt crashed. I will prolly check more today.

i have no mods at all and its constantly failing to load the game engine, like i have no saves at all cause i havent been able to play sense 2021 and when i make a new game on any map it asks for tutorial i choice the difficulty and random maps each time, it loads loads loads im at desktop no errors thrown nothing in the event viewer nothing from the firewall as it happens either way, just nothing at all complete failure of a game it took 2 years to get mouses to work in it correctly with xboxs version and now it and steams version are a failure when it comes to any level of stablity

I use older Asus Laptop, netstick connection(very old stick), beat up razer basilisk mouse(yes i like how it fits in my hand), and Windows10.
Game launches everytime, saving works etc...

- Have you try it to install a game again by removing any edited file by mods,editors etc.. from a past?
- Wich windows you have or do use apple or others ?
- Does this only happen with State of Decay 2 ?
- Do you have multiple virusprotection program in your computer ?
- Does your State of Decay 2 being installed in a short possible path and not .. "inside..another and another folder" ?

the game uses unreal engine, instead of unity thats very stable if you dont have problems on your end like old drivers or defective hardware.

I dont think any developer studio will ever willingly want to work on unity after the ♥♥♥♥ they did. And even before that UE is much more friendly to work on than unity.

Not really... a mods can crash "here and there" depends how good they are done.
Also if a mods does replace a files from a game directory wich is not good. (i prefer mo2 when i did or do use mods like Frost in Fallout 4 for excample.. MO2 let me play from kind of copy and leaves original game and its files alone.
So wich launcher you are using ? I have no experience by using mods in SOD2, but i do understand also that if SOD2 is updated some mods wont work anymore unless a mod maker does changes in they mods.

Just curious.. do you use cloud saving while playing SoD2 ?
If not ... do you do copy everytime after you are done playing ?

Maybe i am way too .. " old timer..", but i do not believe in this "keep up date by drivers".
Due reason is sometimes a newer drivers are worse then a older one.
Besides also if playing older games .. i believe preparing having "older stuff" installed is way to get older games works more properly then witih a newest a possible because they are not really "focused" on those eras...rather in a newer onces and top lists of mainstream games..

Also been reading that... Win11 is not that great shape with it updates..either is it a gaming or windows stability or even with a components.
I use Win10 at a moment and i never have a problem to launch any game or with differend launchers. Steam, Epic, ARC etc...
Some games do have a problems with Steamdeck for excample..
Also having multiple virusprotections,VPN´s etc.. can cause conflicts.

Oh well.. mysterious are a technologies ways... sometimes.
