I also envision a great improvement by having the base proper surrounded by a large perimeter that is guarded by patrols. As it is now, they have made holes in the walls so that the zombies can get in. Otherwise, there would be no "sieges" because why worry about zombies banging on indestructible, impenetrable walls?
The game does not have destructible walls. I bet they wanted to have that, but it wasn't possible at the time. So they had to make the bases the way they are, with the bloody Watchtower in the middle of it and nobody caring about the infected brains and guts spraying on the beds, infirmary equipment... everywhere. Thinking logically, after one "siege" the base would indeed have to be abandoned for hygiene reasons.
Let's hope SoD3 does have destructible walls, defensive perimeters, a base builder tool inspired by Fallout 4 (and improved of course). And most important of all - no spawns!
