A few questions

what happens if i dismiss a follower in the middle of nowhere do they just tp home?

if i laeve to a diff map can i still come back? Or what happens to the base in my first map. Just started this game so not sure if i should go yet

If you dismiss follower they will firstly runaway from you on foot then after reaching render distance they teleport. You can move between maps as many as you want after getting 2 lvl of radio station at your base. After moving all you items from the locker are moving with you but all facilities are getting salvaged and turned into resources that you spent on them. Same goes to the outposts but there is an exeption for radio station it stays at the same upgrade level either you change maps or bases.

followers will head back home by jogging, but once they are far enough away from you they will be safe since zombies only spawn around the player

changing maps resets a lot of things, but from what i remember you keep everything in your storage, all your survivors progress in skills, and i believe any cars you had parked in valid parking spots as well as the car you are driving will be carried over to the new map. your efforts on the map you leave will be completely undone, going back to it is no different then going to any new map.
