Big Boss for specific zombie-smashing missions. Honk the horn then run them all over.
Survey Car for its specific-purpose use. Great for getting an overview of an area.
I spend most of my actual playtime driving a Pilato / Pilato CR / Ranger SUV though. Until I get the upgrade kit.
Plague Heart duty: Impaler (zombies can't grab the hood)
Off-road/Rare Weapons Case duty: Burninator
Scouting duty: Survey Car
As for the Impaler, I understand a lot of player use that vehicle as a throw away vehicle because it can kill Zs with it's spike in certain conditions. I felt the spike did one hell of a lousy job though. I guess the only worthwhile spikes are the one on the back so you need to go backward into stuff. Anyway, I know the car works per se and you can use the spikes a bit. Sure, it's practical you can spawn it anywhere too. Anyway, if you don't mind paying the cost then yes you can spawn a disposable car and go ram stuff.
You should go backward into stuff with all cars, especially on higher difficulties.
for upgraded ones i would say the Trail Beast is good
It's a bit slow and doesn't really have that good fuel economy and range. Otherwise it's nice enough.
It's a not best, not worst option for all relevant parameters.
Armor: medium
Speed: slow
Acceleration/handling: a bit sluggish, making it difficult to shake off zombies and whirl around 180 degrees.
Luggage space: 6 (i.e. in the middle between 3 and 9)
Ground clearance & wheel size: in the middle between the donor car and Burninator/Trumbull 4X4
Fuel consumption and fuel capacity (range): poorest of the 3 vehicles with fuel drums - the Pilato might have better range, for instance
Special abilities: none
Bit like asking "what's your favourite Record" - It depends.
Fun fact - According to the achievements Log (which we know is Wonky) only 29% of players have put Armour on their cars.
