Its no longer updated and actually causes code 5 and 10. If you have it find a new flashlight mod.

I dont support mods but this is surprising to me so while thats up this will be here.

Step 0: Check https://support.xbox.com/xbox-live-status

If everything is green continue.

Step 0.1: You need a save file with characters before you can host or join multiplayer

This is essentially the same for any store version of State of Decay 2.

1. Windows 10 is a minimum requirement. Check your version by typing winver in the taskbar and pressing enter. All Windows 10 PCs should say 22H2 or later at this point. If windows update wont work we can figure that out. Ask for help in the main help channel.

2. Make sure your timezone is set to the right one. You can check your timezone by typing cmd in taskbar then pressing enter. In the command line window that opens up type
tzutil -g
then press enter

Next, for steps 3 and 4 open the windows settings > apps and features list.

3. Scroll down to look for "Xbox Console Companion". If you have it, uninstall it. Its a now fully retired system app from 2018 and has been removed from the MS Store. If you have it and uninstall it, it shouldnt come back.

4. Next, look for these three apps. These are the current names.

"Xbox"
"Xbox Game Bar"
"Gaming Services"

These are now default apps in windows 10 since 20H1.

You may find when you open the Xbox app that it wants to update itself or install plugins called Xbox Live ID and

From there reboot the computer, see if any windows updates or MS store apps want to update, and try multiplayer again.

Create new windows account, and try again. This way I was able to launch the game.
But in main windows account game is not working. still "too many requests".

Was able to login normally with my usual account. Server issues from Micro$oft, no doubt.

It's working via Geforce Now, but I have to login and authenticate for every session.

I'm having the "Too many requests" problem and can't play because of that. I have no mods installed.

Also the fact that the game won't let me play if I can't log in with Microsoft's account is just crazy

I contacted their support and a lovely gentlemen named Carlos solved the issue with this:

"Thanks a lot for playing State of Decay 2 and taking the time to report this Connectivity issue you're having; We understand how important it is for you to enjoy the best experience in our game, we also know how significant it is for you to play with your friends.

Since these steps clear the cache and data of the game from your device settings. This will remove any temporary files that might be causing issues.

Click on the Windows Start button, type credential and click on Credential Manager.
Switch to the Windows Credentials tab
Find the "Xbl / Devicekey"
Click on the option that says remove."

Just wow, a customer service which responds promptly and delivers a solution - very nice!

It worked now!

What I did was connect to my mobile data network instead of using my Wifi, and things worked perfectly. The weird part is that after changing back to my wifi things started working normally there as well.

So maybe try changing the network to see if that fixes the problem.
