On the store page it also says that a Xbox/Microsft account is required to play the game if you are able to read.
Yep, that probably explains it. And explains why its showing up now, given I reinstalled Windows a few times since.
Xbox and Microsoft are together, sure, but you need to pay for a live subscription to play online. You don’t need to pay for a Microsoft account to play this game online on Steam.
This means that the bare minimum you need is a free Microsoft/Xbox account, which is different than paying for a Xbox live subscription.
State of Decay 2 wasn't available on Steam at the beginning. And when SOD2 became available on Steam a Xbox/Microsoft account was always required to play the game. So you are simply lying when you say that the developers added that requirement later.
For years this was only required in multiplayer for PC. Now we have no choice.
I have only signed in twice. Once when I bought the game in 2018, another time when I got a failure to connect because the xbox app stopped communicating with Windows (or something). Logging out and then in again fixed the issue. The game has required a connection on boot since launch so either your memory fails you, you're lying, or your copy has had an error for years.
Having read multi forums I know I am in the right. You just don't want to admit you may be wrong.
State of Decay 2 has always required a Xbox/Microsoft account and if someone is saying something else they are simply lying.
Here is the developer stream where the developers talk about the game when it's about to be released on Steam. Go to 46.26 in the stream and the next question they talk about is if the game requires a Xbox/Microsoft account.

Here is a thread on the Steam forum when SOD2 launched on Steam. When people have a discussion about SOD2 since it requires a Xbox/Microsoft account.

And yes just like you said I have also seen several threads were people "proclaim" that the game didn't require a Xbox/Microsoft account. But either they remember it wrong or they are simply lying since that is not the case. State of Decay 2 has always required a Xbox/Microsoft account on Steam and case closed!
Again I have played this game for years. Be it the Juggernaut Edition. Didn't require a login, but only on multiplayer. Take with that what you will, but at least I am at peace knowing that I am right. Everyone's wrong when it comes to something that doesn't suit the person in the "right" agenda. This forum reeks of such an occurrence. Herd mentality at it's finest.
I showed you the developers stream when State of Decay 2 came to Steam and the developers themselves confirm the game requires a Xbox/Microsoft account. And I showed you a thread from when SOD2 was released on Steam as well where people talk about that State of Decay 2 requires a Xbox/Microsoft account.
And you presented no evidence contradicting that, zero nada zilch.....
There is nothing more I can do in this discussion. And that is totally fine, I am at peace knowing that I am right.
I bought this game a long time ago but everytime I think about creating yet another acc. I go ugh, maybe later.
Thing is, I gave my info/email to blizzard, they get hack, email spammed to death since, gave info to Sony, they get hack email spammed 2x more, I am sick of making acc. and giving any kind of info to these companies and I know every AAA corp. is doing it more and more..
I just want to play the game I bought offline, solo, liked the first game, didn't need an acc. heh.
