They do seem to spawn a lot on lethal difficulty. I don’t drive anywhere without sniper support on standby. I also map out my path ahead of time and make sure my destination ends at an enclave/outpost so I can have backup.
It's a common criticism about the game that I agree with.
the spawn mechanic in lethal makes the game boring. So many of them spawn that you have to fallback on "cheezing the game" to play at all. that usually means not firing a gun ever.
like some wackos like that but they really don't know what "fun" is, they only know "tedious".
the biggest issue with the spawn is how much non-sense they are. you can clear an area, shoot one bullet and do a quick 180 and you can see them appear from THIN AIR within 2 sec or so... they spawn already pouncing at you too sometimes... this is absolutely immersion breaking and unfun.
but in all honesty, when the spawn gets out of hands the game straight up crashes on you, you better quit to menu every 30min or so to avoid losing a character mid fight with a triple blood feral like I do sometimes (game will kill your character if it crashes mid fight).
When a regular zombie yells it's damn near as bad as a screamer going off. You have to master the art of sneaking around and not getting caught off guard. Use crossbows and silenced weapons. Slow search containers. It's a good idea to carry fire, plague cure, and stamina items too. Never get too far away from your vehicle, and keep it repaired. If your ride dies then there's a good chance your survivor will too.
Give some consideration before entering dangerous areas. If you can clearly see an area is thick with zombies or there are several freaks nearby, the quest or loot you're wanting to grab there might be more trouble than it's worth. Maybe work another location until that one cools off. I don't know how many times a side quest has wrecked my game because it woke up plague hearts, got a survivor killed, or got me stranded in the middle of nowhere with no vehicle and I had to white-knuckle it back to base. Quests can get you in a heap of trouble.
One question: what difficulty do you play? if above "normal" on any option, then your complain is utter ♥♥♥♥... (e. g. just lower the difficulty.)
If not. Ok. You're right to some degree. Ahtough I didn't have the scenario with such multiple freaks at a stop of my vehicle to check the map...
For the ammo-issue. play a warlord. Then you can make a special forge, where you're able to create any ammo you need. (I almost always do that just because of that fact...)
I do hope in 3 we can clear areas and have them be somewhat calm for a time.
That is until a throng or horde comes by and repopulates the area.
(i know part of the reason for the spawn mechanic is also console limits; i just don't feel it was as bad on sod1 on xbox tho)
It's true, even with the armored vehicle the zombies rip the doors off with their teeth! LOL
