I've had black hearts with fuel drain and bad placement, in these cases I just skipped the weakness part and nuked the thing to hell with C4 or bloater gas and flares.
Edit: Oh I forgot, Scentblock is your friend.
The only reason I have any survivors left is because i kill the Sod2 task just before I die. Otherwise my community would have died 4 times each.
Point is, wherever it is, there is nowhere a lone Scentblocked survivor can't get to and plant charges.
I had this same damn problem yesterday. I put my whole inventory of explosives towards it and it didn't die. I would even say it went as far as just not being hurt. It was in the middle of a house that didn't have walls inside. I couldn't actually attack it but from one side even though the walls were taken out between the rooms. It took 5 grenades to actually kill it once I realized it was glitched and not taking damage from the sides the walls should have been on. I don't know if the walls were glitched out or if it was the black heart. Now the black heart is dead but the curveball still exists saying I completed the objectives but it's still active and set as a goal on my map screen. Black hearts has felt like a bad idea since the beginning.
If this hasn't been patched out, Rvid has 2 cheese tactics to deal with plague hearts.
