How to play multiplayer?

1) Ive finished tutorial, have setup a communites
2) Linked steam with xbox account
3) When I press multiplayer, still asking me to link with xbox app.
4) I still cant invite my friend nor join their games.

Please HELP

in game radio---multiplayer----select which kinda game you wanna play---if you wanna host you have to allow that in the options ---multiplayer and press the tab

I have only joined randoms so I dont know how to invite friends but I GUESS you have to add them somehow

You can join open games while ingame through the radio or add friends to your xboxlive and invite them that way

*Add each other as friends on your Xbox/Microsoft accounts. It's not enough that you are friends just on Steam.

* The one who is going to be the host has to "open" up the option to be a host in the game by:
Press Escape while in game --> Settings --> Multiplayer --> Host Multiplayer Game.
If the game fails to start a session just shut down the game and start it up again. Usually if you have been playing State of Decay 2 for several hours and then a friend comes online that wants to play with you. This problem can happen but it works if you shut down the game and then start it up again.

* Send and invite to a friend. Either by pressing escape while in the game and on the left on the screen you have an option to send invites to a friend when you click it.
Or press "shift + tab" when you are in the game and send them a steam invite that works just as well.
