Black Plague Hearts are insane and now I'm stuck.
I've been playing like a maniac this past week or so since I got the game. I chose Dread difficulty to have a little bit of challenge and not just cake walk but now I'm stuck with 2 overlapping Black Hearts with 3 remaining on the first map....

The difficulty so far has been great, just the right amount and not too easy, but now I got a Black Heart that's toxic + a new one that instantly drains my car's gas.

I was prepping a long time for just the first Black Heart so I can survive in the toxic zone with a million zombies. Almost the second I'm finally ready there's a new heart and now I fee like I'm fked.

If you're intent on taking them down, I'd recommend Scent Block and then obviously targeting the Heart's weakness as fast as possible.
if you cant do it just turn your difficulty to green untill you kill it

Scent block, good idea gonna try that.

Scentblock as advised. If the weakness is melee, try using your highest impact heavy weapon, preferably with a powerhouse survivor who can charge attack with a heavy weapon.

Also, if all else fails you can always leave town and settle in a different map after upgrading your command center to lvl2. You get to keep your survivors and items.
yea changing maps is worth it if you have a lot of awakened hearts and cant kill them

Managed to finish the first map and the story, now pondering on whether I'm ready for Nightmare for the next map or stay on Dread and get more boons.

Nightmare isn't *too* much of a step up from Dread, so you'll probably be alright if you've got good practises going for Dread. The leap from Nightmare to Lethal is huge though. Remember that you won't have access to any Boons on Nightmare (since you've never completed it before) and if you do complete a Legacy, you'll unlock it for Dread as well.

Reading the difficulty settings I decided to again go for Dread but probably next map I'm upping it with 2 boons.

You can only use boons for the difficulty you unlocked them for or lower. If you up the difficulty to nightmare for the next map then you can't bring the boons with.

Oh right....

It's a bit cheesy and it reduces the challenge, so it's up to you.
If you choose Trader and Warlord boons you can start on dread and change it immediately to nightmare, as those 2 boons are basically influence and items from your locker those 2 will carry to a higher difficulty if you change it inside of the game.
This won't work with Builder and Sheriff ones, those will stop working if you do the above.
