Game Save Lost
I have a 40hr game save file for State of Decay.
the game never asked me to sign in to any account, no xbox account, I just launch it from Steam and i get to play directly.
However, today it asked me to sign in with an xbox account, and I signed in using my Microsoft account, and MY GAME FILE IS LOST :(

Can anyone help recover my original save game?

Maybe the save it still in there but you have to look around and just change the save location to your new current one like to copy and paste it.
To make it easy make sure you got the old one start a new game save it and see if you can find that and just replace those ones with yours.

C:\Users\Administrator(Your User name)\AppData\Local\StateOfDecay2\Saved
C:\Users\Administrator(Your User name)\AppData\Local\StateOfDecay2\Saved\Steam\RandomNr#

the save should be there. Why the game does that some times i have no idea.

you can navigate to that appdata\local folder but typing %localappdata% into the windows taskbar and pressing enter

as Baz said it should be behind some folders with strings of numbers.

you can sign into an xbox account and it will make another folder in the first string of numbers folder. a copy and paste of the files will have them load up

this YT video is about migrating from the Microsoft Store to Steam but it shows you the file paths and what to name your save file if it is not named correctly for Steam.
