Stuttering
Has anyone else experienced constant stuttering even when not doing anything? I'm standing in my base with 100+ fps and the game drops down to 30 fps regularly. I've been playing SoD2 for 37 hours now and it only just now started doing this.

For me, the Curveball update ran smoothly for about 10 hours of playtime with a new community in Meagher Valley. However, when I encountered the Black Heart effect yesterday, my game started freezing every 10 seconds for about half a second.

I tried the usual fixes: verifying game files, updating my GPU driver, checking the health of my SSD drive, and even reinstalling State of Decay 2 entirely, but to no avail.

Then, by accident, I loaded another save, and the game ran smoothly. So I hurried to destroy the Black Heart, and suddenly, the freezes disappeared.

Your stuttering issues might be related to Update 34 as well. It could be worth waiting until the current effect ends or attempting to fulfill the effect's conditions, whatever they may be.

make sure to go in there and clear nvidia/amd directx shader cache folder.

I dont know why but unreal 4 games just dont seem to do that at all after updates

I'm able to move fine but my vehicle suddenly ran out of gas from it being a half tank and the mobs also stutter. Currently on the the Black Heart effect as well.

Black heart drain fuel, don't go driving in.

Whats your field of view set at? Too high and you're gonna stutters like crazy. I have my settings all maxed on an old as gtx1080 and more or less runs smooth but if I have the FOV set all the way up it just goes nuts stuttering. I know its a big advantage playing with a high fov but it also makes the game stutter a lot too.

I've got a rtx 3060 12gb so my card isn't the issue, and my fov is set to 90

do you have lots of mods?
vanilla playthrough

pretty much. its using unreal engine 4.13 (xbox one S era) the engine just cant stream in data fast enough. Heck i think it was still hdmi 1.3/1.4 back then? the games were geared toward 60fps

but you should go through ans clear the nvidia shader cache. neither the game or the drivers seem to do that like they are supposed to

Worth messing with the fov and seeing if lowering helps your stuttering problem. If you have vsync and motion blur on turn that off, probably already do since thats the first thing almost everyone does. And whats your displays resolution? 4k monitors, 1440p monitors are just gonna struggle to play smooth over 1080p monitors.
