Your personal followers
If you crouch they won't attack any enemy. They instead will ignore what they were doing and just follow you.
These include people you recruit from your base
Or people you Enlist to follow you for 100 influence.
Your NPC followers
These guys will do what ever the mission says and ignore you completely.
One good option is smoke grenades. You throw a smoke grenade around them ( your NPC ) and they will be safe.
This example specific was a recruit from my base, one of the starters.
But maybe his AI changed since he was mandatory required for the mission, so he became this mindless NPC follower you mentioned?
The mission in particular was to clean a warehouse to get materials , he totally ignored me, didnt follow me to the car, rushed inside the warehouse to get himself killed.
So I guess i need to ignore those kind of missions which ask for a mandatory follower?
Those kind of missions are somewhat annoying because what happens is when the mission ends they will stop following you and try to return to the base by themselves.
Which involves them attacking every enemy along the way.
One option is to kill every enemy near them mission ends and log off.
Then they just teleport back to base
Followers don't act that way usually but in that mission as soon you are close
to location they will exit car and do animation like they are searching something at location.
You need to help them clear zombies, load two material bags into car
(or in your and follower's inventory) and they will follow you again.
You then need to return to base and store materials into storage.
Remember if your follower ever get into trouble just get in the car and drive
200 meters away from them.
Zombies around them will despawn and they will be safe.
And you are right some missions are best to ignore.
You don't need to complete everything but this mission is worth it in my opinion.
I understand. Maybe I didnt clarify the situation as good as I could.
Since I dont play in english, some names may be wrong, I will use my language as base.
The warehouse had inside blood zombies, quite a lot of them. The warehouse had that "screamer" inside as well, and before I arrived, I saw two of those "bloaters(?)" entering the warehouse as well.
The moment I left the car to verify the situation and make my actions, the NPC immediately run to inside the warehouse, without me even getting too near of it. All I heard, REALLY FAST happening, was the screamer using his thing, bloaters exploding, the man crying, meh, died.
I mean... That cannot be my fault. I didnt get much near it, I didnt give a order (I know this dont exist sadly), I did nothing, his viking blood just went to valhala.
Thank you for these tips.
Yeah your goal is to clear infestation at location and loot materials.
Follower in that mission will try to enter building and start "searching"
as soon they are close to location.
You need to be fast and kill Screamer quickly either by car or on foot.
Follower should not die that quickly unless they were severely wounded before mission.
Anyway just ignore optional missions you don't like or have trouble with.
