Should I just buy State of Decay 2 or is the 1st game essential to get?

I've been looking at gameplay and game 2 looks better in every way. I don't really care about story, just want a sandbox experience to fight them Z's.

Is game 1 an essential buy or is it fine just to get game 2?

If not for the story and just for the fun then you can just go ahead for the SOD2

It s not at all, you can jump straight in sod 2 without worry. tho i suggest at one point to so get sod1 in a sale, you will enjoy it for sure as well,

if its on sale too i typically say play the first one and the lifeline DLC. Youll get a like 10 good hours out of it. But since 2 is here i wouldnt probably replay it, lifeline maybe.

Sod1 is mechanically pretty similar to 2 so with playing sod1 itll be like practice for playing 2.

There are characters on the radio, and easter eggs in sod2 you wont recognise. But really the games pretty straight forward.

its mostly a matter of how much you enjoy lore

The first game just gives some story background and history. The second game is better in every way. Just play it.
