Gamepad/Controller Issues
I've played this game for years on both PS and Xbox controller, but when I went to play today, I just couldn't get the darn thing to work. I've configured everything under both general controller and game controller settings, but to avail. I am still gamepadless. Please, if someone knows what is going on here help. -ty

My Xbox controller is working fine so game is sound. Have you tried other games?

Other games work fine. The only other game that doesn't work is 7 days to die. I was just playing Conan Exiles with it. I use a ps5 controller, and a few weeks ago was playing SoD2 just fine.

Someone will pop up with a solution, they always do.

Games with native controller support often needs steam input disabled, as the injector assigns a temporary hardware ID in order to use the advanced functions such as media & menus.

Some games can work with the injector enabled by running them via big picture mode.
Those that don't: Rightclick game in steam, properties, controller, steam input <- disabled.

I have tried this a few times. every time steam is enable it show the controller working, but it doesn't. When I disable the steam input, it grays out the controller features in the game. Also, not working.

Ok, Looking over the settings (even when the controller steam input is on) the steam prompt says 'disabled via game override. But the problem here is when I go into the game there is not option to enable anything. Nor, is there an option to enable it via that controller game settings page. It all grays out.

Ok folks after fiddling around a little bit with steam setting via the main controller page, I found out what it was. It was the desktop configuration settings. I have to tweak these settings to get it to comply with the rest of the settings via game. Don't ask my why these particular settings affect the rest of the programs, imo it shouldn't, but it does. So I basically just changed the setting from my custom config mouse gamepad to regular gamepad. And, it works on the SoD2 now.

I will be leaving this post here for anyone else having this issue. Thank you all for your support, and have a great game.

Ran into this issue today with my PS5 controller, thanks for the post update!

My Steam controller desktop configuration setting was disabled when I checked, changing it to Desktop Configuration (default suggestion) enabled my controller within SoD2. I changed it to Gamepad after to see if that has any effects and turns out both are fine, so my experience is that as long as that setting is not disabled, things will work. I have custom controller layout for SoD2 and it's running fine as usual now.

Something must've happened with the past two Steam updates that took place back-to-back recently.
