General Instructions on Bringing your Xbox Community (Save) to Steam!
** This is the most reliable way I have tested to work, there may be others, but this one is mine.
1) Launch the Xbox/Microsoft Store version of SoD2:JE and make sure the community you want to transfer is there.
(I recommend loading the community and changing characters to save it again so it updates the time/date stamp)
2) Launch the Steam version of SoD2:JE and create a new community, if you don't already have one saved in the Steam version.
(You will be replacing this community with the one from Xbox)
3) Open File Explorer and navigate to "%LocalAppData%\StateofDecay2\Saved"
There should be a folder named "SaveGames" there. This is where your Steam save games are located.
4) Open the "SaveGames" folder and open the folder and subfolders of the save game you created or want to overwrite.
Look for two files "SaveGameX.sav" and SaveUser.sav" The "X" in SaveGameX.sav will be 0, 1, 2, 3 based on your number of save games and which one you selected.
4) Open a second File Explorer window and navigate to "%LocalAppData%\Packages\Microsoft.Dayton_8wekyb3d8bbwe\SystemAppData\wgs"
You should have a folder(s) with a bunch of numbers and letters for name(s). These are your Xbox/Microsoft Store save games.
5) Pick the save game you want to transfer to the Steam edition
(You can verify the right one based on Date/Time stamp if you recently saved it.)
Change the file ordering to "Date Modified" and the most recently modified files will now be at the top of the list.
The Date/Time stamp under "Date Modified" should match to the save game you want to use (the one you opened in step 1).
6) Using notepad, open the first file and press Ctrl+F (or go to Edit -> Find) and search for "DaytonSaveGame"
- If the find is successful then this is the file you will copy and rename to "SaveGameX.sav" in your Steam save folder.
- If the find is unsuccessful then repeat the search for "DaytonSaveUser"
- If the find is successful then this is the file you will copy and rename to "SaveUser.sav" in your Steam save folder.
- If both finds are unsuccessful then move to the next file and repeat the searches.
Once you've identified both files and copied them to your Steam save folder and renamed them (overwritten the Steam saves), Job Finished!
7) Close the two File Explorer windows and launch the Steam edition of SoD2:JE.
SUCCESS! (If not, something went wrong or there is an issue with the save file)
Got my legacy pool, Heartland save and my 2 communities. :)
