I believe steam users will need xbox live account for pc use. It is nothing rare that companies have their own network/security systems. Steam are a game parking spot for other gaming companies, nothing more.
After a week of doing that you'll practically forget you ever had to do any of that.
The xbox communication for Sea of Thieves is really bad though on the Xbox Companion. Nothing simple about it. If you do want to play with others you'll want to jump on their discord or a friends discord and find people that way. If we have to still connect through xbox that will be a pain in the ass.
are you asking about needing to have something that is a part of win10 os??? or you hate creating an account to fully use the win 10 features on gaming aka the xbox live services??
What i'm asking is if you need an account that is being payed for via Xbox Live now just an account without a membership.
you just need an account without membership or anything,
if you are using windows 10 and using online account (email to login), you are already member,
just open "xbox console companion" app (already installed by default), login using your windows 10 account and you can setup your username/gamer tag, avatar and many more
if your PC/Laptop using win7 / win8 / win10 32bit OS, than you cant install and playing this game
(100% free to us, consoles pay for it)
