if ya startin a new game, jus keep on rollin da RNG, if ya tryin to get folks in a game, ya outta luck, no choice but to take wot it gives. You can give survivors without a 5th skill, a 5th skill, either by using a fully upgraded outpost/home base facility of the required type, or skill books, which can be brought from traders, and can occasionally be found as loot... It's all RNG as to wot books turn up.

so no way to repec skills at all? so have to just get lucky to find a filth slot survivor? all the ones i find have useless one star skills taking up the slot or a skill one of my survivors already has and i don't need

devs need to give better ways to get better folowers and just RNG

Probably the only best way to get someone with a 5th skill which you want, is by summoning an enclave via Radio command, then recruiting one of the survivors and exiling them. Hence and repeat until you find what you're looking for.

if you're having that much bad rng you may wanna download the community editor mod on nexus.

It lets you basically create your own characters.

how many survivors do you have? 9 is the soft cap but you can have a max of 12 in special missions that allow you to recruit the whole community. Once you have 9 or more you can't recruit more people the normal way.

Yeah the games forcing me to exile two survivors to get one, so stupid. lucky I had another equally as useless survivor that I can exile anyway. Sucks losing the labor though. can I use the scrum book on the 5th slot survivor and then get another 2 labors, or would I have to still keep exileing to get new ones without missions?

Send them to the legacy pool if they’re someone you want to keep.

Curious as to which map you’re playing. I find this issue more on the Trumbull Vally map.

To recruit a new member you will unfortunately have to get rid of people till you have 8 to be able to recruit another as 9 is the max.

You'll eventually get a mission that allows you to recruit 3 enclave members even if you're at the soft cap of 9 community members, tho I dont know which mission it is exactly.

If the 5th slot survivor doesnt have a 5th skill than yes you can give them the scrum book. 5 is the max skills a character can have.

exactly Trumbull Vally, you'er right!

well i wasted a 5th slot survivor that i found, all adding labors with scrum book does is speed up facility tasks. otherwise useless that i can see, doesn't allow you to add any new survivors at all, now i need to exile the new guy because hes now useless too and find someone else again. Yay, fun real fun

Scrum certification is the skill you learned yes? Its supposed to give 2 labor and 50% to build and action speed. But yea it can be a pain looking for new people especially if you play on lethal.

skills are never a problem with possible recruits, you can see them before you recruit someone (learn about survivor) .
the real problem are the bad traits you see first when the NPC is recruited....

yeah im getting to know the survivor recruiting better now, every now and again there will be 5th slot survivors that i can just use for whatever. yup rinse and repeat lol

The way I have been playing lately, I reroll until ALL of my starting survivors have an empty fifth slot, and I have to use whatever books I find or buy to give them skills. I also never return to base (I swap out the active character in an outpost)

There are four Special Enclaves that can be recruited as a trio, bumping you from 9 to the absolute max of 12.

1. Soldiers Enclave. These guys usually have Discipline mental skill and no 5th skill, making them the best choice for doing this. You can tell they are the -real- soldiers enclave by their first two missions being a guy asking for help clearing an infestation and then wants to be driven home to his base. The next one is a visit to their previous base to retreive a gun. You can cancel that "enclave project", and then after a while they ask to join.

2. The second best is the Alcoholics Enclave. These guys have Chemistry and Bartending skills if not no fifth skill, and I at least would always want two chemists in my community. Bartending is actually useful with a Still 2, as it gives a bonus trade item.

3. The third best is the Mechanics Enclave. After helping them retreive some Parts from a destroyed Norma, the next mission can be cancelled and then they will ask to join after a while. These guys have the Mechanics skill, though, and nobody needs three of them I guess.

4. The whiny losers Enclave. These guys are all useless, the worst of the worst. If you give them enough stuff, they will eventually want to join.
