Google "state of decay 2 faces" theres articles about how it was done from like 2018
Personally I think, once you complete the tutorial, you should be able to customize the initial 3 characters. Even minor customization, such as hair style and color, skin color and some basic facial changes (eyes, nose, mouth) and be able to assign the 5th skill from a list and not spend 30 mins trying to find a portrait that you like that has the skills you want.
So basically your saying the Devs were to lazy or not creative enough to come up with their own designs. Honestly if my image was used in a game and it looked that bad I would be angry.
They were going for...normal. They are also not doing their hair and makeup or even taking showers. Survival is ugly.
Damn i must sound like a horrible person, but look at the faces ingame, it's like the most ugly faces in a game i ever seen.
The Division 1 also sucked about that, not sure about Division 2, i never played that.
The ugly and dirty ones survive, the pretty and cool ones die because they try to steal the expensive jacket from a zombie.
(Additional it's pretty difficult to make realistic human faces with UE4)
We have a winner. It distorts proportions. Although I cannot subscribe to ALL the female characters being ugly.
Never fails to dissapoint this world and the creatures inside it.
It's probably the same problem, like it is in GTA Online with female clothes, it makes the body shape adapt to a men shape. For example the Lost MC clothing, that was unlocked with the Tuners DLC. It's a distortion problem like somebody here described.
I blame both UE4 engine and the devs. The devs the chars are based on, don't look like the chars. Im 100% sure something went completly wrong creating all the survivors.
I only got one female char that doesn't look completly ugly, she is the doctor in my camp, she is a black woman with a ponytail. For some weird reason she looks okay, like a normal person looks like.
This game sadly isnt a asian one, thats why. You saw the downfall of Horizon Forbidden West didnt ya? The complaining about "her not being good looking". Now you know why i prefer asian games over western ones. If i play a game for as long as some, i want to look at something nice, and not something "realistic", aka ugly. Fitting as it might be, its a game it can go wherever it wants. And no i doubt any modder out there will change the models even thou thats totaly posible these day's as those games are by far not known/liked enogh to do so.
