What is the deal with the campaign versus heartland?
My friend and I got it when it was $10 for the co-op which turns out to not really be co-op or not like we've found on any other game before. We started playing the campaign but the campaign really seems like sandbox run around do stuff with no real story. Should we be playing heartland? That's just the upgraded map from the first game?

Heartland is more difficult than the campaign on standard difficulty. Also, it has some story but not a huge amount so the gameplay isn't a whole lot different.

heartland is a story dlc yes.

but the campaign added the trumbull valley map that takes place after heartland. storyline and characters and enviromental stuff show up.

in heartland you can host your friends regular campaign group to get some help.

Id start with the campain tutorial, then play heartland. then either bring your main group to trumbull or start a new community there.

One thing heartland introduced was the "Blood Plague Freaks". Then later on the devs added them to the main campaign if you play on Dread difficulty.
just buy state of decay juggernaut edition so you have all dlc's accessed and free packs that are supply drop which you can open in the game and get free op weapons
plus heartland is like playing lethal in trumbull valley but the plague got worst and theres story ♥♥♥♥ u gotta do. If you played the first game and play heartland you would get nostalgia fr

they only way to buy the game now is the juggernaut edition. They stopped selling the regular and ultimate edition when Jug came out

This game isn't even marketed as a co-op game besides daybreak.

There is story in the campaign, just not as fleshed out as other games.
There is an actual "end" for it too, but you can choose to survive as long as you can - which is really the main goal.

Heartland is more story-focused as many others have stated here.
One can say that it's a direct continuation of SoD1's story.

So you just play until you lose all your players? But there is kind of a story ending also?

My friend was saying it was too easy but we had not gotten that far and we were only on the second difficulty level. He was saying how it was too easy to kill the hordes and such with the car and that you did not really get to upgrade you characters. I think he/we are too used to stuff like Outriders.

Do we need to up the difficulty or are there bigger harder hordes coming?

Is that the gist of it. Upgrade base and defend from hordes, go help others you can trade with them and they don't start attacking you?

The biggest issue for me is playing with him as the host I don't get to do much. I can't even put gas in the car or help upgrade anything.

I did see some hack that let you put ruck sacks in your locker then maybe I could give them to him.

Thanks for the info.

Heartland is just Dread(normal) with plague freaks. If you want a challenge play Lethal. Even nightmare is too easy since you can run up to ANY plague heart with an auto rifle+compensator like an AK and kill it with one full clip. If you play Heartland, Scentblock is OP af. Lethal is only challenge

Unless you want partr 2 of the 3 part story. Most people that played SoD do want to see what else happens, so yes, Heartland should be played once for that aspect of it.
