Power Outpost vs Generator
I know a lot of people debate which one is better based off outpost slot vs building slot. Not the point of my question.
I also know a lot of people say "just get builder legacy" also not the issue, that is the first one I'm unlocking but it's not done yet.

My question is this: I see how the power outpost costs 2 fuel. It seems the generator also says to start it that it costs 2 fuel. Unless I'm wrong the generator only runs for half a day. So does it seem logical at all to use a generator, even one built in, because of fuel costs?

I personally am annoyed using the dang thing just because it keeps turning off and it seems to love to do it right before it dings the resource rewards for the day.

I build generator when I desperate(upgrade command center) but I will always get an outpost in the late game.

I don't choose any boons when playing .

I've started to include someone with utilities/electric in my group so I can build the solar array. Just have to have 1 free large slot. Best IMO since it's silent, ongoing, & has 0 daily fuel cost.

I go solar or outpost, unless using boon. I can't recall using the generator really much even in the past. Generator makes noise. I think it lasts 48 hrs, but its been a long time. I hate bases that decide a bunch of crap I don't care to use and don't need.

Solar is great if not doing the boon. Utilities and electronics is certainly a must for me, probably #1 to have. Even if I don't need solar the skill allows for Hydroponics.

I wish there was a quest to restore power, rather then a boon. It would be neat if each map had something you could restore that remained permanent for that community no matter if leaving or returning to the map.

I use an outpost until I can build the solar array on a large slot. The Builder boon, while nice, is way OP, for me. It took away the challenge for me of providing necessities of all types to my communities, so I don't use it any more.

Your complaint about the generator is understandable. I have the same complaint about the Rain Collector only distributing water for so long. So I only use that until I absolutely can afford to get a water outpost.

I tried the builder boon but i honestly dont get the value, the utilities offered by it dont actually provide morale bonuses which is what i need on lethal and very little actually needs electricity/water if you dont make use of large slot facilities.

You don't see the value of power and water for free? You can't even max out the base without it and the Sheriff and Warlord boons are all utterly useless.

I'm pretty sure that the Kitchen requires water to enable the Feast (stamina/morale) and perhaps Power as well to produce Energy Drinks. I am not sure if the Slow Cooker requires anything, though.

The White Noise Generator requires power for +10 morale as the best mod of its kind.

It is true that the boon doesn't provide the +1 (for water) or +5 (for power) morale for electricity/water. However, what it does, is giving you 2 free outpost slots, which would have been otherwise occupied by power and water outposts. With 2 extra outpost slots, you can e.g claim Espresso Stand. Espresso stand gives +3 morale and ability to make Espresso for the same cost as Coffee (2 food). So, you get best fatigue remover without the need to build kitchen to craft it.

So, water + power outpost = +6 morale in total.
Or, 2x Espresso outposts = +6 morale in total (same morale bonus).

Generator is only useful if you have Builder leader and one free outdoor slot, so that you can upgrade it to lvl3, with no noise and less fuel consumption. But you still need to activate it from time to time.

Another option to get power/water, is when you're on Meagher Vally map and claim Wind Mills landmark outpost. Then you can spend labor (or spare parts or influence) for power and you only need to build Rain Collector (or Still) to get free base-wide water as well.
