Why is a Microsoft account required to play?

I don't like the fact that I have to sign into my Microsoft account to play the game. I'd much rather using my Steam account. Why is this a thing?

Sure, but the API must have some sort of offline/no/guest-account switch in it, no reason there couldn't be a switch for it, on PC or on XBOX

Almost certainly they could add it. but I think the main concern the devs have is that they want all the versions of the game to have the same build.

I have been told before, never tested, that if you load the game with no internet, and the windows account is local, then itll populate.

The trouble there is 1, the steam achievments arent going to pop and 2 im pretty sure that will bork anything with entitlements tied to it. Like Bounty broker items. maybe even some of the newer things. like the curveball setting. Im not sure how thats tracked.

Again i havent ever tested it.

If YOU are annoyed, how about ignoring the discussion and blocking the person posting instead of trying to silence people who have a legitimate problem with the business-tactics of some publishers and developers.

You mean the "business tactic"(? wtf you even mean by that) of porting a game from xbox 360 and it being built on top software that has no corresponding part in steam, that steam would have to develop if they had a desire to, but they don't desire to because it has existed for a decade elsewhere, and literally takes NO EFFORT to use?

Like, I get it you're mad, but at this point in time it really sounds like it's just people whining for the sake of whining when it's free, built into windows, and takes 30 seconds to do ONCE to resolve any issues. If a developer wants to put their game on steam they have plenty of ways to build something. If they don't want to do this for whatever reason, thats their decision, but I'm still gonna complain and return the game if they force me to.

GFWL stopped receiving updates in 2014, It's cool other games have the ability or desire to not use Xbox accounts, this game just happens to use them, Like it or not, it's required, get over it.

Also, it's Microsoft, if you're running windows, they have your data anyway, and making/not making an xbox account isn't going to change that.
