What is a good way to beat Nightmare Zone?
I figured how to get the upper hand on the Dread Zone by packing three players with goodies and rucksacks on the next play through. But Nightmare Zone seems unforgiving. Is it possible just to load up on my stronghold in a lesser zone, then move to a new map, moving the difficulty up to Nightmare Zone? Has anyone tried this before?

Edit: Sleepy. Wrote Nightmare Zone as Dread Zone in later parts.

Yes it is possible to change difficulty at any time, not only when you move to a different map.

Edit: look for my "tips, tricks and general advice" thread here in the forums for how to deal with Nightmare. It's on page 3 currently.

You can do that yes, but if you change difficulty from Dread to NM, you do not get NM achievements. For achievements you need to start and complete a game from that particular difficulty.

Loading up 3 characters from a Dread map with goodies including an ammo press is definitely a good start.

Actually it does, I did that for my first nightmare run. Got the achievements for nightmare.

I'll take a look. Thanks. Also, thank you to everyone else for your tips. I feel silly for not realizing some of these strategies before. Oh, how many times I started on Nightmare only to get hammered hard! Haha.

One of the best way and it has been said it to load up 3 characters with full good gear, and holding MATERIALS rucksacks because... materials are materials you know :D. It can allow you to build an infirmary right at the start :)
Less than 20mins of gameplay focusing around looking for materials + the 3 starting rucksacks and you have Infirmary lvl 2 :D

Protectron advices are OP for new, even advanced NM players so read them !

hope this helps.

... but still, best real way to beat nightmare is to work on priorities, decision making, knowing what (not)/to do, when to fight/run, etc... with a fresh community is the best !
I don't know about dread though so I won't say anything about it. (did standard -> nightmare back then, cause unlocking dread boons felt like a huge loss of time compared to training for nightmare zone).

When did you do this? Because it didn't work for me that way, and I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to. Maybe something changed.

a week or two ago. Started in dread, changed to nightmare midgame. Got the over the rainbow(finish legacy in nightmare) and peerless(killing all plague hearts in nightmare) on that run, not counting the achievements that you can get in both dread and nightmare.

Interesting. It would make sense to pretty much finish the game to meet certain hidden criteria.

All you need is focus on silence.

* Keep base noise out of the red. This won't much a problem when you got 7.76 and 50cal weapons on survivors (armed to the teeth).
* Silence is your weapon. Silencers, use lower caliber firearms.
* Snap Aim. The only true threat is Plague Ferals, but they fear this enable survivor skill cheat. Weapons that don't break are great with it, but most are from that Western bounty.
* Stop crawling every damn inch in the game.

OR

Just basically cheat the difficulty and game. The only real difficulty found in the game is the first day to few days.
* Start a game with 3 survivors with sacks, weapons, facility mods, ammo, explosives in their inventory.
* Have a loaded up community just change difficulties.

Nightmare is just about not being an idiot and summoning everything and magical spawns.

Lethal isn't much different then Nightmare. Worst things are plague infection amount and plague ferals. Again, Snap aim is Godly and a great counter to these things. Plague ferals are pretty horrible to deal with in packs of zombies and basically death in a pack (3). Carrying cure, HP, Stam is a good idea.

Vehicles are your life line, not tools. The A.I is horrible, don't take to plague hearts unless they got resistances.

I guess they changed that then? Didn't work for me like that a few months ago. tbh it seems kind of cheezy but I think the mods dont disable achievements so its not like it matters I guess.

Choose three new survivors, all three with the "determined" trait (take your time to roll them). If they don't have the 5 skills it's not a problem (with the beta you can get the books by doing the second upgrade at the outposts).
Play the beta!
He teaches mechanics to one, gardening to another and computers to another. Specialize them when the time comes in: powerhouse, disciplines, swordplay, gunslinging, (although I personally prefer sharpshooting).
Equip them as soon as you can with a good blade and a silenced assault weapon.
(With these characters you can play the lethal zone without fear of anything or almost anything)
Get the infirmary to level 2 as soon as possible.
As soon as you can, elect a merchant leader to quickly get resource backpacks and facility mods.
If you don't have the builder's legacy yet, I recommend playing the beta at Meagher Valley for nearly free electricity (at labor cost).
Change your leader to builder before finishing the game to get his inheritance.
Learn from your mistakes.
