The game is logged into with an xbox live account. The xbox live account stores clothing unlocks, boons and bounties. But for the steam version it does not sync the files. (steam and Ms store versions have seperate save folders in %localappdata%\stateofdecay2\)
Steam Cloud copies all four save files to your steam account. But if you switch xbox live accounts on the game with the same steam account the cloud save will be overwriten with an empty folder as theres no saves in that new xbox live account. You can switch back and forth but steam clouds only pulling the last account used.
So basically if you are switching xbox live accounts you should probably turn off steam cloud. Or simply back up the %localappdata%\stateofdecay2 folder.
As long as you don´t change from MS store and Steam, I think you will be safe. :)
I actually didnt tried, but I may backup and change to a MS install to check if the old LEgacy pool is still there. WHen you install on Steam, only other aspects of the game, like WarBucks mentioned above, are kept, when I started playing on Steam, I have to rebuild the Legacy pool from zero. Which was, and it is, fun anyway. EVerything that was unlocked, including Legacies, came with it, and I had access to my pre-release DLC, which I had from MS store (is stored on the Xbox account as well).
I´m not sure what happened with the other user save game. Not sure if he was playing when his ssd went kaput and corrupted the saves, but it should not have happened. Hack, my PC used to freeze all the time and It never got borked. If I was you, I would not worry too much.
However, if I just back up my entire SoD2 folder under the \users\ folder, that will include the legacy pool?
The MS Store version before the Juggernaut edition release had slightly different save folders. So it might make sense to make sure thats updated.
Basically you uninstall the old version and install the new. Then the saves will for sure be in the stateofdecay2 folder.
This is all assuming its the same user login on the computer as well.
There are however 5 files savegame0-savegame3, and a saveuser file.
The saveuser file seems to be updated anytime I play the game or so it seems, so maybe this file specifically is the legacy roster?
Savegame0-savegame2 are the Communities, and I have no idea what Savegame3 is.
When I started playing I was accidentally logged into my wife's XBOX companion so much of my work is on that account. When I switched the companion to my account everything was lost including the legacy pool, but if I log out of mine & back into hers everything comes back, including the pool.
So, yes, it is saved in there somewhere.
