What Exactly Happens when you Switch Maps?
I'm currently on Providence Ridge, the only map I've ever played on, at the Sawmill. I still have some places to explore/loot here, and I've been getting lots of loot from joining friends, but I think at some point I want to change maps. I have it in my head that I'm going to get the 100 day achievement with this community (200 hours, oof).

I know the new map will be untouched and pristine, with probably a dozen plague hearts for my firebomb pleasure (playing on Dread), but I'm mostly concerned with how much of my stuff comes with/what happens to it.

I would imagine I start with no/the smallest base, and I have 11 people. How long will I have to get a bigger place or get situated before my stuff starts to decay? What happens if I have four cars and the new base only has two parking spots?

It would be awful for me to try a new map and find out that one of the large bases is surrounded by five plague hearts; the idea of clearing plague hearts doesn't bother me, it's doing it without a base or without a really established base.

You keep everything you have in your base so it's not hard to be prepared to clear hearts the moment you get there. You have like an hour before resources start disappearing (at least). You also keep all your parked cars + the one you're driving iirc. If you want to move straight to an 8 man base, it'll take longer to clear plague hearts but you can just as easily clear one or two to take a middle tier base. Also, if you're playing on Dread only, you're not going to have many hearts blocking you.

You'll have to destroy all the Plague Hearts blocking access to the biggest base yes.

When you move maps, you get back all the Materials you used to construct the base you left, and half of the influence cost of moving there as well as half the cost of the Outposts you left behind.

You'll likely get 200+ Materials back and there is no point using them on the beginner base. However, you could easily build 3 lvl 1 outdoor beds to offset the morale penalty. That, and rationing, should let you have the better part of a day/night cycle without too much resource loss.

I had 13 when I started the map, I would imagine a similar number on a new map.

So I don't start with any base? Where do people go/how do you swap characters?

I'm probably overthinking it, though.

When i changed the difficulty for this update, i started inside the first base. I had two cars in parking spaces and another two off to the side (which were parked previously). You are overthinking it, it's really not a big thing to deal with especially on Dread.

Probably true enough.

Thanks for the help.

Yes. It always puts you directly in the starter base. There seems to always be a medium sized base outside of any plague heart zones somewhere on the map, so since you should have lots of influence from the get go you can make a beeline to that base from the starter base and claim it. The starter doesn't hold much so that is what I always do.

Yesterday, I started a new game on Dread... no middle-tier base available without killing a plague heart... not a bit deal, just 6-7 pipe bombs (or 4-5 grenades; since I started with the Warlord Perk). But yes, almost every game I have played have had a middle-tier base.

Good to know. I assumed they did it by design, but I guess its up to the RNG of the heart placement.

Yeah, my new post-25 game had a plague heart located just south of the starting base on Providence Ridge, and about 5 of them surrounding the fire station.

Good times
just save your storage stack with 4-6 bml 40 auto grenade launchers and its not that hard to clear one place from hearts to claim one of the big head quarters, in dread each bml magazine can clear one (sometimes up to 2) plague hearts, thats the only time my squaddies carry each 2x bml to make haste and claim big head quarters, if your boys and girls need ressuply there are the outposts to help that resupply, repair the grenade launchers and do the magazines.

SawMill its my favorite head quarter for one reason...

SawMill have 5 large slots and that means potentially we can have there all the leaders buildings in operative pace, trade depot and automechanics its still a must i guess, then infirmary or field hospital and armory depends on what ammo use your squad and maybe one slot for builder's snipers tower as legacy quest line.

see you in the frontier!

good gaming everyone

I moved to Meagher Valley last night. Not sure if that was a good choice based on the base layouts I'm finding, but it unceremoniously dumped me in the starting house, and I proceeded to run and clear the brewing company, where I'm set up.

Only real downside is I have 140/35 building materials because I have a bunch fewer large slots used, even after construction is finished, so I filled two cars with rucksacks and I guess I'll just eat the rest while I explore around and maybe work my way to the baseball field.

Thanks everyone!
take care, Camp Kelenqua have +8 beds built in and just -1 large slot from Camp Whitney, you too get around 6 small slots ready to build facilities, in meaguer valley its my favorite, and also on meagher there are the higher count of secret containers, for 16 i think,

if want loot secret containers than never show on map, just check for videos in youtube and start looting them, in example the first one is near starter base hq in the "truck parcking" near also from the 1st gas station,

good gaming everyone,

see you in the frontier!
