Modding our way into integrated coop
Hey all, a buddy and me are really eager to play this game but we've done some research on how the MP works and it seems too arcadey for our taste, as many others stated we were hoping to play on a more shared experience like other survival games, like The Forest, Ark, hell even Minecraft, mainly bc we don't really have the time to play 2 separate alternating campaigns just to have some kind of real progress into the story.

I hope that with enough pushing the dev team get their hands into making a more in-depth coop experience, but in the meantime, do anyone knows if there is any mod that helps with it? Game's been out for a long time and I've been looking into the modding scene but haven't found anything yet.

So what exactly is stopping you from playing the game that way? The only thing you can't do yourself as a client is click what to build and what to remove, everything else is literally the same, some things just take more steps as in, you've got no quick access to facilities instead you have to move over to them. And since you'd be playing with your friend, you'd talk about what facilities host should build to benefit both of you. So again, literally no difference between what it is and what you want it to be.

Maybe, but as far as I know that is not the case, is not just a matter of being outside of the construction aspect (which in a survival game is one of the core aspects imo), it also locks you out of being able to use most camp features, and restrict you to be a bystander in the construction and interaction with the community system, and the campaign/"story" progression.
For example, if I got it right you have to have started a community with at least 3 companions on it to be able to play with someone else in multiplayer, taking one of them with you, but cannot grow, manage nor interact in any way with your community when you're on someone else's game, having to go back to your camp to even heal or attend to your companions needs.

I might be having the wrong idea but I really doubt it after going though many articles and threads with people stating they're grievances, which mostly mirror my own.

I bought this game with co-op in mind, along with my dark souls buddy. Maybe it is how dark souls co-op was made, we didn’t mind that join a host and lend a hand sort of system. All we do is take turns as host.

It is not how the story progress, base building, community management provide us hours of fun. It is the co-op combat experience that does. Supply run, random mission etc. Whether being host or helper, the fun is there.
