FYI you don't just press the grapple button, but hold it instead. Also you cannot typically grab a zombie from the front unless you have the Powerhouse specialization in Cardio. Without the specialization you'll want to grab a zombie from behind (or possibly if it's stunned, I forget). You can also easily grab zombies who are prone.

Grappling is quite handy if you are faced with multiple enemies because you can throw one into a line of other zombies and topple them all over (Zombie Bowling!), giving you extra time to handle the situation. Holding a zombie in a grapple does drain your stamina the longer you hold it, however. Grappling also is useful for choosing whether to train in Combat or Wits, as you can throw an enemy you're engaged with to the ground and crouch to get Wits or sneak up on an unaware zombie and throw it before finishing it off with your weapon for Combat.

I'd say you're best off making your own thread and giving lots of details about the problem in order to best receive proper assistance.

Default controls is X for grappling and Spacebar for throwing while grappling.

Yeah I was struggling with it too, its very odd placement. I suggest rebinding the grab, makes it much easier.
