"Your account is currently restricted from playing online" - Should I make a new Microsoft account?
Some time ago when I first started playing the game I tried the Daybreak mode, and due to its difficulty tried to join a multiplayer session. However, I instantly got this error, and to this day always get it when trying to play multiplayer:

Unable to play online
Your account is currently restricted from playing online

It was a while ago that I last tried to fix this, about six months, but from what little information I could find it seems my account has some kind of problem related to Microsoft family features despite not being in a family group. Without going into too much detail - I mean, this isn't the Microsoft support forums - it looks like to fix this I'd need to make another Microsoft account as part of the process.

Which brings me to the question:
If I just give up on this mess and connect State of Decay 2 to a different Microsoft account, will I keep my characters, unlocks, etc?

Also, if anyone else has faced the "unable to play online" issue and has another solution, please tell me.

I would try looking in your game settings. Look under multiplayer and make sure you have host multiplayer game on. I think the default is multiplayer off. Not 100% sure, but I believe if you have multiplayer on you can not pause the game.

I have tried that, but when I try to switch host multiplayer to on I get the same error message as I described in my first post.

What other games did you play via that account? Seems like your access got restricted if it's always saying the same thing.

The last time I used it was years ago on our xbox one, and I never had any problems with games then. At the time I think it was part of some kind of family group so my mother could have parental controls on it, but I removed it from that a long time ago. From what I could figure out online there might be a problem where somehow one of the parental controls things stuck around. I found some threads on Microsoft's support site where people had that kind of problem for things unrelated to SoD2, but in all of them they never got any helpful response from Microsoft.

It's all this weirdness that's making me wonder if, since I'm playing on Steam, I can just switch to a new Microsoft account without losing all my stuff.
