Question about MultiPlayer before buying
Does the other player need an established community/character to play, or can they just log in and join as a member of my own community?

Well you'll probably find multiplayer to be quite boring if you're playing with a friend only, 80% of the loot goes to the host (you get bad loot). You do need an established community.

You dont get bad loot.. Host gets the regular loot that would be inside a building and additional loot is added for each individual joining the hosts game dependent on said looting location. I mostly just play co-op into random ppl games, and when you are done helping someone depending how how much effort or how long you helped them you will recieve co-op rewards depending on tier of co-op exp u achieved while helping him. Joining someone and killing 1 zombie gets you tier one, so that normally like a few bullets and 2-3 random items. Higher tiers will give facility mods, guns, and large quantities of general supplies.

This. Resource rucksacks go to the host, otherwise whatever you pick up and deposit goes to you. You have access to all your items while in their game, and access to their facilities while in the base, but you can't do anything that takes time (check people into the Infirmary, break down piles of weapon scrap, etc.). As WildAsian said, the longer you play, the more rewards you accrue for your own game, in addition to whatever loot you've picked up and deposited.

It's based around you helping the host. If it's a friend, you can and should eventually switch games so the other person makes progress. You can also carry things into and out of games; I've taken resource rucksacks into and out of a friend's game simply by logging off with them equipped, and they'll be equipped when you load into his game or your game. We've already agreed on some trades; he'll give me weapon scrap and Materials in exchange for crossbows, and I've given him some spare skill books and facility mods.

Resource rucksacks go to the host,
by using a car to deposit you can also send rucksacks to your (the clients) comm.
