That's still a fairly powerful combo. Lacking beds can be ignored in my experience if you use feasts and Morale buffs.
Also note that after you call one in before you accept them you can check their stats (not traits) and refuse to hire ones you don't want. This WILL refund your prestige that you spent to call them in.
This dude did a good in depth look at the various Red Talons. They are really good, and tend to mitigate or overcompensate for their penalties. Like the Mobile Operations guy is a good example. He sometimes wastes fuel...but his trait gives him +1 fuel a day. A lot of them are like that.
That said, while they are powerful you do need to take them into account somewhat, particualrly if you don't have a established community. On Nightmare though....I find them indispinsable.
