In State of Decay 2, regardless of the version, friends who join your game are assisting your community. They will still be able to level the characters they bring into your world, just as they would in their own, and they can still loot just as they could in their own world. They do not take control of any character in your community, nor do they setup their own base in your world.
With respect to the design choice for co-op, even though it's rather simplistic, I still do have a lot of fun playing with friends in that game (in spite of the quirks/bugs that exist). Most of the best moments I've had came in co-op mode, but I can appreciate that the experience could have been far more in depth.
Dedicated player base on PC and console renders this opinion invalid ;)
Having a handful of fanboys doesn't render a franchise immune to dying off, what a stupid perspective.
Guess we'll see when the stats are up on Steam as to what's considered stupidity
