True...
...a lot of PC games are console ports nowadays, and the reason for that is very understandable, but almost all big AAA PC titles have their fair share amount of bugs and other issues. ACM is no exception, but it did get flamed a lot for it though. The issues PC gamers are having today is something that has always been, and will always continue to be with PC gaming. It's an open, flexible and highly customizable plattform - that is it's strengh and weakness at the same time. As a PC gamer, you have to be ready to deal with certain compatability issues and you should be prepared to troubleshoot things for hours, days or even weeks to get optimal results. If you're not up to it, then you'll have to look for alternatives (consoles, for the most part a plug and play experience).
Also, I think it's extremly important to understand the situation and provide helpful feedback to the devs of the PC game. A lot of gamers whine and put their "fail if it's not perfect on day one" stamp all over the place. This has to change, or else companies will continue to shift their focus towards consoles.
Exactly.
Also, I found some information about the stuttering Windows 8 users have been having (issue #3) with ACM. It seems my suspicion and test results have been verified. In fact, not only ACM is having stuttering issues with Windows 8, but a bunch of other games as well. As soon as you move around your mouse - fps spikes and stutter. Call of Duty, Deus Ex, Borderlands 2 and a few other games seem to be having the same issue. I'll update the list above with this information first thing in the morning.
Meanwhile, you can find all the details here: http://www.reddit.com/r/windows/comments/1oor43/windows_81_warning_for_gamers_issues_with/
Unfortunately, none of the workarounds mentioned in the link work. Yeah, I tried them even before the article was wrItten. I guess this only goes to show how serious one should take system requirements on PC. After all, Windows 8 isn't officially supported by many games - including ACM. Everything on your system has the potential to cause issues. To make things worse, I installed Win 8.1 a few days ago, only to find out that the newest 13.9 Catalyst drivers had issues during installation. It broke the drivers on my system, even though AMD said they are compatible with Win 8.1, causing system instability. Shortly before that, I spent two days trying to find out why Resident Evil Operation Recoon City wouldn't launch on my machine. Turns out a Games for Windows Live (client) bug was causing the hickup. Why I need Windows Live, even though it's dead and even though I downloaded it via Steam, is beyond me.
In any case, it's no wonder console gaming is so healthy. The above is one of the many reasons why ppl are shifting towards console gaming.
Hi Niel, did you ever play on the avp 2 demo back in 2007? If so you were probably on my server, the one hosted all the time for the players while I went to work before the recession hit in 2008, it hosted 76 or 78 players, can't remember, but sometimes had from 11 to 40 players at once, some without names. Yeah that was my server, sadly alot of hackers flying around using grenades as an alien and making an earthquake of the screen, when I would see everyone's ping jump thousands, I booted him, knew he was trying to come back in, and he got in a few other times and crashed my server, I knew when I came home from work sometimes, the error of my server wasn't a rare bug, and I was right. Also more hackers later the next year came around when I tried to host the game again, I told him if he didn't stop, I would close the server down for good, all the other players were reading it too, as I was typing to him from the desktop server console for the game demo, there was no ban feature on the demo, just kick, I didn't know his ip and so I couldn't firewall it.
But I enjoyed hosting that back in 2007, and I hope everyone that was on it enjoyed it as well, most players had to turn to my server, I am sorry it had to come down to no more hosting, that and after the recession, things just got worse for even myself.
Also you can find my guide to help fixing game issues here, which I created earlier this year under the transformers: war for cybertron forum guides, this should help fix issues as well.
