"Failed to start game (app already running)" error after exiting the game

So as the title says Steam is giving this error for me "Failed to start game (app already running)" after exiting the game. Anyone has the same issue? I hope they will fix this quickly.

Open task maanager and select processes. Select Aliens Colonial marines exe file and end task. Then relaunch the game and it works fine :)

Try to delete your appcache and restart Steam after then
(If its not in the TM)

Always shut down and restart steam after an installation. I had the same with L4D2

Game is starting fine. It is giving this error after quitting the game and returning to Steam as I said.

does not work. Really pathetic... all day cant play it. tried everything reinstalling veryfing, restarting steam, pc, deleting appache. ALways it turns on shows 4 or 5 intro movies and than dont send error. Win 7 64bit system....

you could try and change your unicode.

1. go to control panel
2. go to language and region
3. select the Administrative Tab and change your language locale to English
* It will prompt a reboot of the system
4. after reboot, startup steam open the settings tab
5. select interface tab, and change it to English (if not set to)
6. start the game

worked for me, i had mine set in Japanese. you all know we like to play those animu boobu PC gaems

I have exactly the same issue. Only happens when exiting the game.

Get this man a gods-damned medal. After trying EVERYTHING else(Deleting Appcache, uninstalling it, uninstalling it and deleting all its files, restarting my comp, ect ect) THIS OF ALL THINGS FIXED IT.

If you are getting the "App Already Running" Bug then try this, it fixed my issue.

I get the exact same error and all my settings both in steam and windows are in English, have never even tinkered with those settings since that happens to be the only language I know. *As an aside yes I know I should stop being lazy and learn a few extra languages*

I get the same message after exiting the game on both mine and my sons pc(I have 2 copies of ACM collectors edition). The message goes away after I verify integrity of game cache(and after it auto downloads an 11mb file)but when I restart steam and play again the message comes back and I have to do it all again(including downloading the file). So I can fix the problem but it just comes back after steam restarts. Any ideas?

I get the same error message after existing the game. As long as it does not screw with my game play and achievements than it's all good in my books.
