Film grain? Really.....
Can there atleast be an option to REMOVE the film grain please as it looks utterly awful and it also appears to break FXAA. The new AI and fire/explosion effects are a welcome bonus, but the daft film grain is retarded.

I bet they'll add the option at a later date. The problem is everyone was complaining that it didn't look enough like the movie, and film grain is a HUGE characteristic of the film's visual flair. But forcing it on is definitely not the way to go.

i hate film grain makes the game look bad. I hated it in mass effect too but atleast we got the option to turn it off. Now i have to look through the game engine files to see if i can turn it off.

And I thought my hardware or eyes were defective XD

The films did not have film grain. What are you on about? I simply can not play the game with this film grain. It's insulting.

What the hell... this new patch and especially the film grain destroyed helix patch for 3D vision... oh man, they really make things worse. I liked the game so far, but why the hell this patch? I don t believe Helix will do another 3D vision mod. :((( I am sad.

Actually the movie Aliens does have lots of film grain. If you watch the movie on a large high resolution TV or projector its very obvious. More pronounced in the DVD version of the movie. In the Blu-ray version the grain is cleaner and not as annoying. I can see what they were trying to do with the grain in the game. Make the game look more like the movie. Like a poster stated above, we should at least have an option to turn it off.

Back when CD's were a new thing some companies toyed with adding the audio equivalent in to make people happier who were more attuned to vinyl.

Movies like Aliens will have film grain as they were filmed, not digitally recorded. Bluray version will have been cleaned up.

As for a video game, adding effects is fine but anything added should have the option to be disabled in case people dont like it.

I am not sure if I am happy with the grain, but I am happy with the patch.
This is a step foward.

i actually thought something was wrong with my system because of the grain effect. I still dont see that big of a difference in the textures... 3 1/2 gigs is a lot.... was hoping that i wouldn't have to look REALLY hard to see the difference.

I'm running the game at max and I saw the difference straight away. I recommend you go and get your eyes tested...

The film grain masks how nice the update actually is. And yes they should have been smart enough to include a toggle, or have an .ini setting that we could set to False. I prolly won`t play this again till we have the toggle for film grain. Already have a massive headache from trying to play with the grain. Egads, I had the visuals tweaked so nice, and then bam. some nOOb from GB added Film Grain.

Point is, ya don`t update the visuals, and then throw a Film Grain eye condom on to block us from viewing the new update.

It's there just to cover up visual problems with a layer of blur.
Your eyes are distracted by this "grain twinkling" and you brain fills in the gaps.

Bloom and grain effects are old tricks

WTF i have no high Screen TFT for that ♥♥♥♥ looks like a 70s old Color TV !?!
Same in Left 4 Dead , why to the Hell no Option for disable !?!
If someone find in config files how to deactivate the film grain I will be very appreciate...I`m tired of looking for this sh** whole....serious the game is already that bad...adding this filter makes things much worse.

not exactly hard to run it a max... i mean... who doesn't?.... Only difference i saw straight away was that light coming off a fire is orange. I was just thinking that maybe if i looked at the floor it would look nice. Or a wall.... Or.... a character... or hell... anything.
